Julien Simon is a LB!

Any talk of using him at safety or RB is only a cover for Bob Gregory's poor recruiting appeal. I mean, I'd rather shell out $2,000 on a non-refundable deposit for a casket (I want to be cremated) over Bob's pitch. I'm sure he's a great husband and father --and that's important -- but I'd just as soon have Nick Holt or Don Pellum coach me than smilin' Bob

If he wants to play, he will play RB. Team @dnc on this one.
Newton, Davis, Sunday (hopefully), and Adams at RB.
At LB, it’s Ulo, Sirmon, Tafisi, Danny Hammer, Calvert, Ah You, Tuputalu, Bruener, McDonald (I think?), and Fowler.
It’s a lot easier to play early at RB. The depth at LB is unproven but that’s a lot of bodies and they are mostly pretty young.
The recent report hinted they are thinking about him at RB. The Bob pitch is probably incredibly boring, but I don’t think that’s what is going on here.
The coaches are hinting at him playing RB because he will indeed play RB. Lakes comments about physical RB’s Is another aspect to why he’s playing RB.
Simon doesn’t have the length or weight to ideally play outside so that’s not happening. He’s not fluid enough to play safety. He’s playing RB if he comes here. -
Just watched his junior Hudl. I was impressed with his hands. Made some nice catches on offense and had a few picks on defense. He is physical too. The best skill he has is making plays on the ball. He is good in coverage as a LB. He looks slow tho which is a horrible sign. The Myles Jack comparison by Huffman is really far off.
Other than his high ranking, what am I missing? If he was a 3 star, nobody would watch his film and think he was a must get. He’s gonna drop quite a bit by the final rankings, I would guarantee it.
If we take him, he might be a decent TB/H Back. Kind of like Adams, he’s got good hands and is a smooth athlete. He just lacks explosiveness. Strange and tough prospect to say the least. -
I'm also skeptical of his athleticism, but I don't see how moving him to RB helps that. Trying to evaluate a LB on limited hudl tape is usually pretty pointless, we have no idea if can read the game well enough to play the position.RoadDawg55 said:Just watched his junior Hudl. If it doesn't work out at LB, I do agree that the H-back/Hunter Bryant slot TE could be a good role for him. -
I don’t see him as a good RB. The coaches hinting at it makes me think it could happen. I think slot TE, FB (when we use one) is probably his best role. A mix between Jack Westover and Hunter Bryant.Neighbor2972 said:

He simply looks too slow to play LB. The safety talk definitely won’t happen. I’m honestly surprised he has the offers he does. There are some things to like about him, but the speed/quickness along with him obviously maturing early don’t make me excited about him at all. -
Guys he is pass for me, by the time he gets to campus he will be cashing his social security checks at the rate he is aging

He’s closer to Wellington than Jack in terms of explosiveness. I think it’s more likely he ends up at ILB, but I’m not going to pretend like I know anything. It looks like he has pretty good instincts and hands, but lacks speed.
If we can somehow land Calvert or Brown I’d still be pumped if he was the other ILB we got.

Agree with most of your post. He’s not as quick or fast as Wellington. Wellington was pretty fast but had horrible instincts.dawgs206 said:He’s closer to Wellington than Jack in terms of explosiveness. Simon’s instincts look good. He does not look like an explosive athlete tho. I don’t know much either, very few do, but it’s just opinions on a message board. I don’t see him as a must get and I do think he will steadily drop down the rankings. -
He’s faster than Wellington but lacks explosion at contact. His read and reactions are well above average. He’s the perfect WIL in PK’s Defense. He’s a team captain kind of kid, the type you want calling the defense and your daughter to date. He’s not a big play difference maker but an NY6 starter we want on this team.RoadDawg55 said:

El oh El. Not even close to Myles Jack. Lazy Comp from HuffRoadDawg55 said:Just watched his junior Hudl. I was impressed with his hands. Calvert is not coming here. The fact that he has USC and UCLA above us, again, tells you how much Bob Gregory kills our chances of assembling an elite defensedawgs206 said:He’s closer to Wellington than Jack in terms of explosiveness. Fuck Gregor

I don’t care where he plays just get him in the boat. He is best friends with JT and would be a huge recruiter for JT.
