Not surprising. Jimmy Lake likes guys to have NFL experience. Gerald was probably begging to coach for him but got told to fuck off to the nfl and come back in 2022.
-
The NFL is a perfect fit for a guy who is a great coach and mediocre recruiter.
Good hire for them. -
Oh fuck it's the Dolphins

Pros play on Sundays. Gerald still has Saturday's open to come in as special teams/LB coach/quality control. This hire changes nothing.insinceredawg said:Chest is in shambles

I'll ask him on our next weekly update call.RaceBannon said:@creepycoug
Do you think Cristobal will keep him next year? -
That whole logic of “GA can come coach linebackers at UW” was the most fucktarded thing I’ve ever heardinsinceredawg said:Chest is in shambles

He could have. A lot of coaches coach at a position different from the one they played. It was stupid to think it was a possibility. It wasn’t ever happening. People need to fuck off thinking they have sources. They are fans. Nothing more.NEsnake12 said:

And the idea that he'd be enticed to come back to UW if we added recruiting coordinator to his job duties. That's an administrative function that KB handled cause coaching RBs is the easiest job on the staff. I used to find Chest's pod to be okay but after being wrong on every rumor he threw out and the stupid GA/OC hot takes I'm over it. He's no better than Howling Doog and the Dawgman guys at this point.NEsnake12 said:

Shut the fuck up about GA. He blows. Cal's d was all Wilcox and DeRetard.

I don’t know if he blows but the hype behind him was crazy. He had a middle of the conference DB unit and hasn’t beaten out many, of any of the big boys in recruiting.haie said:Shut the fuck up about GA. He blows. Cal's d was all Wilcox and DeRetard.

Malloe was a safety but is now a lights out DL coach with back to back Morris Award winners for best the best lineman as voted by his peers. Coaches can and do coach different positions than what they played quite often.
It was the fact that GA was continually called “our top target” and that he could be named recruiting coordinator, co-DC, get a big raise, etc. to get him here. Turns out he wasn’t really considered for DB coach and Gregory was never in any danger of being canned.
Just like Banks was “our #1 target” until he was dropped by UW and all the other big programs, and then Princely was “our biggest priority for the 2nd signing day” but then isn’t brought in as official visitor.
Being a prognosticator is fine. Just don’t say you’re “hearing” or your “sources are telling you”. -
I think it's one thing to coach a position you didn't play but something else to move from coaching one position group to another position group. It feels like it happens on offense much more often than defense.DoogCourics said:

That’s not even the problem IMO. Some of those guys have semi decent sources (not the Jordan Banks thing that was literally building a dogma out of one pro Banks tweet that Kwat liked...not made, liked.) Citing sources can be fine if done correctly.DoogCourics said:

The problem with almost all idiots who have sources is they take what their source says as Gospel. Most of these sources are a couple degrees of separation away from real information themselves and just because someone is on the coaching staff doesn’t even mean they know everything that’s going on.
Say “we’ve heard GA might be considered for LB coach and we hope that’s the case.”
Most people are completely incapable of understanding nuance and acknowledging there’s more they don’t know than they do.

I think it's much more likely that most of those guys do not have actual sources and are just making shit up that will rile people up or fit a narrative.dnc said:

It’s not that hard to have a source. There are enough interns and support staff that are easy enough to access that anyone who wants to badly enough can get a little piece of inside info that occasionally ends up being legit.bananasnblondes said:

The problem is people assume because their source knew one thing it means they know a lot of things. -
I really doubt GA coaching LBs was ever a real consideration outside of the TSIO/BDTW world. This idea came originated from the TSIO guys a couple years ago when teams were allowed a 10th assistant. Kwat was struggling massively at recruiting OLBs and Jimmy wasn't going anywhere so it was a way to bring GA back into the fold while keeping Jimmy and improving OLB recruiting ahead of the Savell recruitment. That dream died when Will Harris was hired. Fast forward to this year and Lake getting promoted, opening up a spot for a DB coach. This is when @HeretoBeatmyChest started the rumor that his "sources" told him we were bringing GA back. I was a fan of the potential hire but was skeptical that he'd make a lateral move since his name was being floated as a possible DC. When Terrence Brown was hired any rational fan understood that either GA said no to us (most realistic) or we passed on him. Chest wasn't ready to admit his sources were wrong so he continued to maintain the idea that GA wants to come back to UW so badly that he's willing to coach ILBs which made no sense for either side. Even now he's unwilling to believe that GA would ever say no to us and he thinks either Lake passed on him or we didn't have the budget to add him.dnc said:
