I’ll add that I sat through some Don James era ass-pushings, and if you had told me then what I know now, I would have said you were full of shit.
Same if you had told me in 2004 on eDuck that a good handful of us would be congregating on a Husky site. So there’s that.

Speaking of ramen and educk, does anyone remember when Oregon was in some intense h2h recruiting battles with Miami (over jacory Harris and some wrs), and some Miami fans spam attacked educk with ramen noodle gifs and hardcore porn gifs? That was the infamous 2008 Miami class that was ranked way up there. They got most of that ridiculous class from Miami Northwestern, almost all of whom were disappointments. I never thought much of Harris, Tommy Streeter was physically gifted but didn't produce, Marcus Forston was a nobody D lineman by Miami standards. The best one was the least celebrated ... Sean Spence, who was a good linebacker if not undersized. He was having a nice career with the Steelers as a starter, which surprised the fuck out of me, until he really blew up his knee.
That class had so much pub and was such a bust. I think there was also some POS huge lineman who didn't do anything either. Miami Northwestern produces talent like Starbucks produces coffee, but that class and all its hype was twash.
I think Oregon had piqued the interest of Harris and I think Streeter, who eventually said "no thanks." That said, at the time it was a YUGE thing that Oregon could get a Miami kid's attention. The only guy from the Pac who could come into So Fla and steal a kid from Miami, FSU, FL, LSU, etc. back in those days was Pete and the SC name. Washington never even bothered, and from what I gather they still kinda don't. I thought it was good on Oregon for being that bold. You gotta start somewhere and they weren't afraid to try, which I respeck.
Today it's all national and Oregon's name is much more established now than it was then. Also, kids today fly so often that no part of the US is really "too far from home" anymore. That used to be a real thing and doesn't seem to be as big a factor now.
