Chip is going to kill it! They lost their good TE to the draft too. It’s over. Gonna be another ugly season. If he can squeak his way to a bowl game he might a 4th year.

Couple things ... there has always been a lazy element to Chip's coaching. Reportedly he ran practices like few other teams ... perfectly efficient ... and as a result his teams were incredibly well conditioned and were able to run opposing teams into the ground.

But he was lazy in other aspects of running a program, in particular in managing "people issues". He was a lazy recruiter, and probably would have replaced staff about as well as Jimmy Lake Ballz appears to be doing if he'd had to face that issue. Fortunately for him, he inherited a lifer staff.

The other thing about Chip is this: he is yet another in a long line of examples of coaches who were brilliant in one place and mediocre to awful everywhere else.

I think he did get lucky to have a staff and foundation in place before taking over. The marketing and all that was already good at Oregon too. He didn’t have to build Oregon at all.

Some schools are so lazy recruiting. Umo Amadi was going to LSU but that fell thru. Oregon needed DB’s and used a recruiting firm that gave them Amadi’s name and they took him sight unseen without him ever even being to Eugene.
