Helfrich says this is the most talented/fast team he's seen

Safe to say those two would have been banned on eDuck.
So to my Ducks in here will Helfrich come through on proclamation of this team? Or will they underachieve by your standards?

With Slingblade at the helm, there is no escaping underachievement. Yeah if you dare to say the ducks will underachieve under Helf Stalin will promptly ban you, but not before you're targeted by fatass Cheswick and smothered by the insufferable giant green font and the idiocy therein. I'm really dismayed by the general foolishness all around. In particular, taking an elite program and running it like a varsity high school team. Does anyone really fucking think that a team with a HC, an OC and a DC, all who had no prior experience at those positions, could really continue what Chip Kelly had built?He_Needs_More_Time said:We'll see how the Ducks do during the season. Was watching 1080 the fan on comcast with Issac and Suke. They were saying how the Ducks will go 9-10 wins, how Helfrich is the next Bellotti. He's not another Chip Kelly and you can tell by how they ended the season.

Yea they pointed out how they have a new DC with no prior experience after seeing what happened going from Kelly to Helfrich. I wish Seattle radio had guys like Issac and Suke who properly call out the local team.
-
Hopefully Helfrich will surprise us in a good way
-
So they are more fast than quick?

Pellum, their "new" DC, has only been the LB coach at Oregon for something like 20 years. Granted, you can say he's not an experienced DC but with the way they run that program it can't be a quantum leap from his previous assignment. Most Duck fans I know think Alliotti was getting stale so the switch to Pellum could just as well energize them as be a set back. I live in the Portland area and anybody who thinks Isaac and Big Suke are any kind of "authorities" on anything except the best all-time fart jokes and Portland's best pizza joint is an idiot. Local sports talk radio in Portland is awful.He_Needs_More_Time said:Yea they pointed out how they have a new DC with no prior experience after seeing what happened going from Kelly to Helfrich. Still not as bad as Seattle though.RaccoonHarry said:

Oregon will be smaller upfront this year than last year, which is kind of ironic sense our size upfront last year was our achilles heel. But don't worry.........our undersized linebackers from last year will back with some experience. Maybe this year they can line up properly, but that still won't stop them from being ran into the ground by opposing offensive lines. Any coach that calls more than 20 passing plays on us next year, needs to be fired. If teams actually focus on the run against us, Oregon is looking at a 7-5 season.
Believe it or not, 7-5 will give Helfrich a third season. So, year three will be when the wheels fall off. Which is pretty impressive, because I thought even a Paul Roof type higher would take 5 years to ruin us. I'm starting to think Helfrich is just some Husky troll trying to make the Oregon Athletic Department look bad. -
Lambo inherited a team that had won three straight conference titles and a shitload of NFL players. It only took him two fucking games to ruin it so be thankful that Helfrich isn't Lambo level shitty.greenblood said:Oregon will be smaller upfront this year than last year, which is kind of ironic sense our size upfront last year was our achilles heel. I guess greenblood missed the news about the players gaining some major weight
-
I think Oregon will be good this year, and are rightfully the favorite for the Pac 12 title, even with Helfrich. Most of the OL is back, Tyner, Marshall, and Addison, and of course Mariota. The offense should be about as good as it's ever been. The defense with the new coordinator is the question. The ducks were pretty soft up the middle last year, which Stanford and Arizona exploited. I'm still pissed Sark didn't run Sankey 40 times in the game last year. It probably wouldn't have mattered the way Oregon was shredding our defense, but still.
-
RD,
Voted down for not putting comments in 5 reasons format:
1) Marcus Mariota, he's the best player on the field and enough said about that. He's got 2 years under his belt and will do whatever he needs to do to win the game.
2) Offensive line averages 332 across the board with Fisher, Stevens, Grasu, Ossai, and Hunt. These boys have attitude, speed, and are ready to rumble.
3) Don Pellum, a new defense and a new attitude. Many players and coaches have talked about the difference between Aliotti and Pellum.
4) Speed Speed Speed. This is the fastest team that Oregon has ever fielded with Tyner, Mariota, Marshall, and Addison. There are newbies that we've never heard of that while inexperienced will add an additional dimension of speed.
5) Time of possession. Who are we kidding, Oregon scores too fast for teams that try to play a ball control style and keep Mariota off the field to ever be successful.
I think Oregon wins the PAC rather easily with an average winning score of say, 34-17. -
In all seriousness I like UCLA to win the Pac-12 this year.
-
Might be some closer games for the Ducks. However, the speed and strength of the backs, O line, and the receivers is going to put the big hurt on some teams. We get at least one linebacker to stuff some runs and off we go. MIght be Joe Walker. We will see.
-
I'm going to sound like a doog but what the fuck ever: who is Oregon going to overtake for one of the top 4 spots? The 2 best teams from each of the SEC divisions will probably be in and then you're looking at probably FSU and then one of MSU/Oklahoma/OSU, etc. You won't even get to that point unless you beat out UCLA and Stanford, which I agree with HNMT, UCLA will probably be the best this year and Stanford has to prove they've taken a step back. Oregon is elite with a top 2-3 quarterback but they have a huge mountain to climb just to get to the title game next year.
-
If Oregon goes a shitty 7-5 and he gets another year management needs to face the firing squad immediately.greenblood said:Oregon will be smaller upfront this year than last year, which is kind of ironic sense our size upfront last year was our achilles heel. I don't know if it's the fact that you guys have dominated just about everybody for awhile now or what, but I would be pretty shocked at a 7-9 win season out of Oregon. If that's the case I would think that the players had lost respect for Helfrich (or Pellum or insert-toolbag-assistant) at some point in the season.
-
I think so too. I don't see how Mora doesn't win the South. ASU and AZ lost a lot last year and USC has Sark so they are already mathematically eliminated.RoadDawg55 said:

Helfrich needs to drag his nuts through shards of glass in the offseason and get tougher on the players or hit the road.haie said:I don't know if it's the fact that you guys have dominated just about everybody for awhile now or what, but I would be pretty shocked at a 7-9 win season out of Oregon. Mike Bellotti was good when he had talent. 1996, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008 were all good years. If you took a young Mike Bellotti and placed him at the helm this same time Slingblade took over I think you would see parallel results.
All I have to go from is last year. The wheels fell off late and the offense still sucked balls in the bowl game with a month to prepare. With Addison down it seems like the running backs will have to carry the team and none of them have showed so far that they could be the core of an elite offense.
We'll know after Sparty if the defense is capable of anything. -
Mike Bellotti was good when he had a good OC like Tedford or Kelly. When he had neither from 2002-2006 he drowned.
Showing he was a bad coach. -
You can bet on Sparty not respecting Oregon's WRs and doing everything possible to dominate the LOS and take away the Oregon running game. We'll learn very early on whether or not Oregon's got the playmakers to surround Mariota to be a conference contender. If not, Sparty will put the clamps on them, then UCLA will, and a good chance that Petersen will as well.
-
Everybody likes to bash Bellotti, a lot of it because of the bonehead things that often came out of his mouth ("the best team didn't win", following a loss - shit like that). However, looking at the guy objectively he finished with a winning record against every other conference opponent, even USC. The last opponent has an asterisk because as I recall Oregon lucked out there by not playing the Trojans two years in a row when USC was really, really good. Be that as it may Bellotti was FAR from a "bad coach". He sure wasn't Chip Kelly but he won a lot of games when Oregon was still Oregon, in other words before the big Phil Knight money kicked in.He_Needs_More_Time said:Mike Bellotti was good when he had a good OC like Tedford or Kelly. Mike Bellotti at Chico State went 21-25-2 in five seasons and unlike James was getting worse at his small school. He went 4-5-1, 4-4-1, 7-3, 3-6, and 3-7.RaccoonHarry said:

At Oregon here are his W-L I'll bold those where Tedford or Kelly wasn't his OC.
1995: 9-3, 6-2, 3rd place. Ranked 18th
1996: 6-5, 3-5, T-5th
1997: 7-5, 3-5, T-7th
Totals: 22-13, 12-12
Now Tedford comes in the program
1998: 8-4, 5-3, T-3rd
1999: 9-3, 6-2, T-2nd, ranked 18th
2000: 10-2, 7-1, T-1st, ranked 7th
2001: 11-1, 7-1, 1st, ranked 2nd
Totals: 38-10, 25-7
Now Tedford takes off to Cal.
2002: 7-6, 3-5, 8th place
2003: 8-5, 5-3, T-3rd
2004: 5-6, 4-4, T-5th
2005: 10-2, 7-1, 2nd. Ranked 12th
2006: 7-6, 4-5, T-5th
Totals: 37-25, 23-18
Chip Kelly now enters the program.
2007: 9-4, 5-4, T-4th. Ranked 23rd(Were ranked top 5 all year until Dixon got hurt)
2008: 10-3, 7-2, T-2nd. Ranked 10th
Totals: 19-7, 12-6
If these numbers don't spell out the picture that Bellotti is actually a bad coach who happened to benefit from two great OC's then I can't help you. The stats don't lie at all.

Disagree. Oregon's offense isn't very dependent on WR's. Someone will step up. Cool it with the Petersen is going to put the clamps on until it happens.Tequilla said:You can bet on Sparty not respecting Oregon's WRs and doing everything possible to dominate the LOS and take away the Oregon running game. Truthfully I always knew Tedford/Kelly had carried Bellotti but I never knew it was this bad.
