I think maybe the thing that bought me into what was happening with Miami, which btw I've never maintained was choir boy program, was the Brent Mussberger narrative at the height of the ND rivalry. Mussberger could barely hide his disdain for Miami and made on air comment after comment that made his feelings and his insane bias known. He was an absolute drama queen after the Gerry Foust game, which by today's standards wouldn't even register. Everyone throws the ball in the ball in the 4th Q with a big lead and nobody says a fucking word.
I remember when Michael Irvin accidentally running over a UW law student's foot at a cross walk made national news ... legit national news before the internet. You would have thought it was an insane asylum down there. When all that was happening was a culture war. Miami was very inner city and the country loved ND and Nebraska classy.
Once upon a time Ara hung 50 on teams like Miami every week. The Canes were a payday.
The blue bloods hated losing at home to Miami and FSU, another former patsy.

The 2008 team that lost a Thursday night game to Oregon State could have beaten both Florida and Oklahoma. That Oklahoma team was not at the same level as USC. It might have been Carroll’s best team. It was definitely the best on defense. -
