Study Finds Not Logging Some Northwest Forests Could Offset Climate Change

They analyzed which forests have the most potential to sequester carbon, are least vulnerable to drought and fire, and also provide valuable habitat for endangered species.

Many of the forests that hit that trifecta are along the Oregon and Washington coast and in the Cascade and Olympic mountains.

“The amount of carbon per acre that they take up is as high or higher than tropical forests,” said Beverly Law, a professor of global change biology and terrestrial system sciences at Oregon State University and co-author of the study. “Those are really what I call the land sinks that are so critical to try and make sure we preserve them.”

    If communist climate changers would just all hold their breath for say 20 minutes straight the problem would be solved.

    This study was done in a controlled environment in the McDonald forest and has little relevancy to the happenings in real Forests. The facts are that if forests are neglected and allowed to run amok with undergrowth, they eventually burn. And in large tracts. This not only puts huge amounts of CO2 in the air, it eliminates trees that take it out of the air and provide shade for cooling. When a forest is logged in Oregon, it must be replanted within 2 years. Within 10 years the trees are about 15 feet tall and provide shade for cooling.

    I wonder if this study was able to cross the international border and include British Columbia. or is solving the climate crisis studies restricted to the USofA only?
