The reason Barry was reviled and hated and painted as a cheater is because

1. he cheated but so did everyone

2. he cheated to load up OU with the best players many of whom were Black when Texas and some other southern schools were still dipping and dabbing with quotas

I think maybe the thing that bought me into what was happening with Miami, which btw I've never maintained was choir boy program, was the Brent Mussberger narrative at the height of the ND rivalry. Mussberger could barely hide his disdain for Miami and made on air comment after comment that made his feelings and his insane bias known. He was an absolute drama queen after the Gerry Foust game, which by today's standards wouldn't even register. Everyone throws the ball in the ball in the 4th Q with a big lead and nobody says a fucking word.

I remember when Michael Irvin accidentally running over a UW law student's foot at a cross walk made national news ... legit national news before the internet. You would have thought it was an insane asylum down there. When all that was happening was a culture war. Miami was very inner city and the country loved ND and Nebraska classy.
