Outside of luck/randomness, there's three primary things that determine success in close games:
1. In game decision making (clock management, play calling)
2. Quarterback play
3. Placekicking
UW has been below average to bad in all of those categories over the aggregate five year period, so that explains the bad record.
The scary thing is 2 and 3 have both been above average to good this year and we're still losing games.
That tells you how bad the coaching aspect of it has been. -

this year at 30% we are the highest ranked 6-4 team when those losses are by a total 20 points?
actually the tree wouldn't count as that was two scores.
