    These countries need to use the resources to keep their citizens alive. It's a huge price to pay, but countries are willing to do anything to prevent a financial rebellion. What the U.S. used to do, and still does in some respect is throw money towards these countries, basically allowing our government to be held for ransom, so they don't resort to destroying the forests and other resources.

It can and does come back - look at all the parks in WA state where the cedars are young and the old ones stand out like some kind of awesome ancient relic.

    About 90% of the oxygen produced by trees in the rainforest stays there, and is used up by the organisms living there. It’s a self contained ecosystem. The vast majority of oxygen that you breathe comes from the oceans.
