Amazon rainforest 'close to irreversible tipping point'
Soaring deforestation coupled with the destructive policies of Brazil’s far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, could push the Amazon rainforest dangerously to an irreversible “tipping point” within two years, a prominent economist has said.
After this point the rainforest would stop producing enough rain to sustain itself and start slowly degrading into a drier savannah, releasing billions of tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, which would exacerbate global heating and disrupt weather across South America.

as long as it only happens in South America - OK
TL:DR What day in 2021 is the change happening? -
Lol it's always far right policies........I thought that damn thing was already gone. Didn't we have a big rain forest meltdown with dire any minute destruction warnings say 20+ years ago?
I'm not saying I am for cutting it down but all this "were doomed" shit is getting really old. -
Is this before or after the ozone is depleted (as I was told was imminent in 1974)

I’m not going to get into a screaming match with the doubters of climate change, so let’s put that issue on a shelf for a second. Can we not all agree that cutting down the Amazon rainforest is *bad*?
To me it’s like someone clear cutting the Olympic Rainforest or destroying Yellowstone. There are some natural wonders worth protecting regardless of how it impacts the environment.
Again, I hate how this has been politicized. Make it a damn national park. I hate seeing things of timeless beauty destroyed. -

When another sovereign nation threatens us, we have a pretty consistent track record.RaceBannon said:
