Next year's WR rotation

Jordan Chin
Quinten Pounds (after getting a medical year)
All guys who have put in their due diligence to the program and learned the playbook
Not to warty though. Jalen McMillan will be allowed to catch one TD pass then will be used as a blocker for the rest of the season

You're forgetting the walk-ons. David Pritchard and Fatu Sua-Godinet will lead in targets.

Apologies if this has already been posted. Was listening to Joel Klatt's interview with Softy yesterday and the subject of "gamers" came up. Softy mentioned that Petersen won't play players who don't show in practice and Klatt couldn't believe that line of thinking. His point was that the practice environment is totally different than the game environment in that in practice the defense knows exactly what the offense is going to do. It's tough for young receivers to look good because they are going against a D which is totally familiar with the plays being run. In a game, the D is much less familiar about what is coming at them thus a much greater chance for young talent to shine. I had never heard it explained this way and totally shot down Petersen's theory on "practicers" versus "gamers". FWIWbananasnblondes said:Ty Jones

Stanford and Cal looked plenty familiar with UWs offense. I don’t buy it that young players looks better on game day vs practice.whuggy said:bananasnblondes said:Ty Jones

Scratch Ty Jones. Can't have anyone over 6' getting targeted.bananasnblondes said:Ty Jones

The "potential" for them to look better is there though. Has to be easier for a receiver going up against an unfamiliar defender than someone who sees them every practice. Especially against the quality of our DB's. Experienced players will always have the advantage to look better in practice because they have more experience as to what will work and make them look good against our own DB's. It is a bit self defeating to not at least give younger players a go in a game because the existing philosophy of "practicers" over "gamers" is essentially biased against younger players over experienced ones.UWerentThereMan said:

Craig Chambers was a slug in practice and balled out in games. Practice wins don't count. PLAY. THE. TALENT.

Uh...Pete will be rolling out an offense that doesn't have wide receivers.

Very true about Chambers. He was wasted here. I almost shit when he xferred to, where? Montana or some shit? -
I used to show up to practice hungover all the time. Practice sucks.

If we ran the triple option we would have obliterated cal and stanfordjecornel said:Uh...Pete will be rolling out an offense that doesn't have wide receivers.

Spiker to Oregon.
Puka to Utah.
Osborne to Cal. -
Should've heeded @WeAreAFatLesboSchool's warnings.

In keeping with the subject of this thread, I think he means they'll redshirt him next year.bananasnblondes said:

I hate the thought of it, too. But would you stick around UW if you were one of those guys and witnessing the multi-season OKG-Man-Up pathology of your head coach?TurdBomber said:

This whole narrative is going to die when McMillan and probably Rome leap frog Spiker and Osborne from day one.
Ty Jones, Puka, and McMillan will be the top 3. Bynum 4th if he doesn’t transfer. -
Montana. Chambers was a good guy.creepycoug said:

Agree and I think theres a very good chance Spiker sells the couch between this season and next. From all accounts, things have not clicked for him. I still have hope for Osborne.RoadDawg55 said:This whole narrative is going to die when McMillan and probably Rome leap frog Spiker and Osborne from day one.

Bynum won't transfer - he caught his first pass last week. He is one of our starsRoadDawg55 said:This whole narrative is going to die when McMillan and probably Rome leap frog Spiker and Osborne from day one.

Literally nothing other than their "stars" should cause anyone to believe that Osborne and Spiker are deserving of more reps. Shit, from the practice reports we read it sounds like Spiker has Jaydon Mickens hands. People want to think there's some easy fix and that Pete's a moron for not seeing it, but the easier answer is that the guys behind our senior trio of shit suck even worse. Obviously it's still his fault for allowing the roster to be chalk full of useless receivers, but it is what it is.RoadDawg55 said:This whole narrative is going to die when McMillan and probably Rome leap frog Spiker and Osborne from day one.

But despite all I said above, guys like Opera and Chico are clearly not the answer. Even if Osborne, Spiker, etc suck, it's still time to throw them out there. Why the hell not.
And I have no idea why Puka isn't getting the ball. He's clearly established himself as someone who's earned more targets. Of all the WR storylines, that's the one thing that truly is an easy fix. -
That’s pretty much how I feel. They should get in simply for the drops. You can’t drop that many balls and still play. Let the guys who drop balls stand on the sideline for a bit. It might even motivate them.GreenRiverGatorz said:

I think the big problem here is people assuming that the talent pool in one recruiting class is equivalent to that in a different class.GreenRiverGatorz said:

TSIO guys anointed Osborne and Spiker as the best 2 WRs on the west coast for their class (which was wildly doogish considering Amon Ra St. Brown was in that class). But once you compare their film to Puka or McMillan, you can see that they’re clearly a tier of talent below that. 2018 WR class just might’ve been kinda lackluster. And their stars were inflated because of it -
Not true. People that attended practices reported that Osborne, at the very least, looked very good. Hugh Millen should know receivers, and he said that as well. And what has Puka done to show that? Catch one pass?GreenRiverGatorz said:

Frankly, I don't care about their stars, but rather their traits. If guys showing the speed and size that these guys have displayed can't succeed in your offense, then your offense is fucked up. Coaches have to put players in a chance to succeed. If they can't do everything, great, don't do everything. Because your mediocre complexity is not doing shit.

Pete would have left Paul Skansi on the bench until the last couple games of his senior year. He may recruit reasonably well, but can't assess talent very well when it's right in front of him. Way too much focus on scheming vs maximizing individual talent. All you need to look at during his tenure is the stunning waste of talent he's amassed at the TE position, with several future NFL stars on his teams that catch 1 or 2 passes a game.
That one example, by itself, reveals serious deficits in the offensive coaching. UW is fucked until Pete tears up his playbook. Fucked. -
