I think the implication is that since this visit has been set up for so long that we would atleast save a spot through this weekend. Obviously we don't know if the coaches pushed him to commit earlier, but we usually set guys up to commit on/right after the visit.sonics1993 said:

I enjoy TBSing. Not to the depths that Coker/DDY/LMC enjoy it, but I like to follow who UW is after, who UW gets, and generally enjoy seeing who will be coming into the program that I love. I don't really break down film or pretend to know what to look for. I don't pretend to be able to say who is good and who isn't, but I do like to watch the HUDL of kids who have committed and be excited when they look good.
I just enjoy following what UW is going after and enjoy seeing talented kids ball out and hope they come to UW. I even enjoy poasting funny gifs and memes when kids choose not to come to UW because we can't have nice things, or doing the same when a freak like Murao or McMillen does come to UW because we are finally BACK!
I also understand the PurpleJ/Mike Damone/et al stance of who cares until they are playing for the university. Tons of kids that look like studs in high school end up doing fuck all for the university. Kids that look mediocre and you're not sure what the coaches see in them end up developing times infinity and are all conference players that go pro. So why invest in TBSing when it's a fucking crap shoot. I get it.
What I don't enjoy and don't get is the complete fucking meltdowns and Twatter tirades when a kid chooses not to come to UW, or rather, as in this case, the UW coaches decide to move on. I get it, you're upset. We wanted the kid too. We want all talented kids, but it's a fucking horrible look. And if you think everything matters and optics from the program and from fans matter, then you'd realize how bad your tirades and meltdowns make the fans look.
It continues to be completely glossed over that the reason Banks lost his spot is because someone else committed. I'm waiting to see who that player is before I proceed to meltdown. It's also glossed over that multiple sources have said Banks has struggled this year and all the heavy hitters are backing off. Maybe it's a huge fucking mistake, maybe it's not. Recruiting is a fucking crapshoot. I'm all for getting a player as talented as Banks and figuring it out once he's on campus. If he can't develop, then he'll ride the bench.
The coaches moved on from Banks. I think it sucks. I wanted him to be a Husky and I thought he would be after this weekend. But to meltdown and ban yourself and shit all over current UW recruits on twitter when you preach positivity is asinine. As much as I enjoy TBSing and staying up to date with the talent coming into UW, I'm willing to LIPO in most situations.
Because Amandre Williams was supposed to be amazing and Dick Newton was supposed to be complete garbage.
Bump for LIPO for just ONE FUCKING DAY.

Anyway, Malloe was the funniest coach on stage (Adams is a dud). He told some humorous stories and his comments about the interior DL caused laughs. Definitely can see why he is a good recruiter.
However, his pitch is completely tailored for island kids. He basically said his entire reason for being at Washington is because he sees so many similarities between Polynesian culture and the culture established by Pete. It was heartfelt, but made me wonder what kids from other backgrounds would think.
Sounds kinda racist -
It doesn't mean anything. That's an old quote from the Hardcore Husky bag of tricks , memes and inside jokes.sonics1993 said:

So essentially Banks was the backup for Smalls. He was never really considered as a ILB. Once Smalls committed, his spot was gone.
Lots of twisting on this one -
I say we should try and take Banks too. If LB recruiting would have been done right the past 6 years. We could have had Merlin Roberts and Evan Weaver on the roster. Now we have a year where we have to try and piece together a band aid at LB.
-
CB's coming in for ASU from Biggins and Huffman.
-
Learned a tough lesson and locking down a spot at a solid program now. I wonder if anyone is his top 5 will circle back around on him later on. -
These type of kids always end up at ASU. Herm has made it work so far.
-
We have had some misses in recruiting at LB and some bad luck. We lost 3 potential starters to injury or transfers in Beavers, Eifler, and Kaho. You lose three starters at any position, and your team is drastically worse. We are seeing it this year.
We also had Nick Bolton who is playing very well for Missouri. He’s better than Sirmon and Tafisi. Nobody cared when he decommitted. Some even were happy, but we would be better with him on our team. Another data point that nobody really knows what they are talking about a lot of the time.
I don’t remember if we stopped recruiting Weaver or not, but that was obviously a huge miss as well. He started out at Cal as a DE and maybe would not play ILB for us anyway.
It’s another data point on stacking good classes each year, but we did that to some extent. If we lost 3 DL or 3 DB’s, we would probably hurt there too, especially DL.
I don’t hate Gregory like a lot of you because I think he can really coach. Besides this year, ILB has been a strength. People forget Gregory was a very good DC for Cal. I’m not opposed to him moving on, but it’s far from a guarantee that it would benefit us. Yes, we want coaches that can both recruit and coach, but the coaching part doesn’t get enough attention due to the TBS obsession. -
If he ends up at stdu thats weird how that would make 2 lbs that we some how let go and they went to be devils. I know recruiting is more complex then I make it out to be but come on at the end of the day we could have used those two lbs. Merlin and Banks.
-
who says we could use Banks? Sounds like he just didn't fit our system. He played the same position as Smalls. We got Smalls. From what I've read, he couldn't handle ILB so he just doesn't work for us. Best of luck to him.
-
It’s his job to keep talent that comes on too. Eifler could be a difference over manu. Kaho transferred which was extremely shady and really weird, but would it have happened to a more relatable coach. Eifler most likely stays at least.RoadDawg55 said:We have had some misses in recruiting at LB and some bad luck. We lost 3 potential starters to injury or transfers in Beavers, Eifler, and Kaho. Did he fight to offer or bring on Merlin Robertson as another roster spot? We kind of cooled on him. Why? Especially if you are evaluating his talent vs sirmon and Talfisi.
You are right in that nobody really knows. All we know right now is our linebackers are absolutely horrible and playing at an unacceptable level. Wellington played decent at the end of last year but now sucks. Any position coach with any pride would be embarrassed by what we are putting out on the field. The most alarming issue is there is no answer on the horizon. We don’t appear to be recruiting any jc players for this gaping hole either. This position and wr are wrecking this team. -

Why is Bob Gregory a good coach? ILB was really only a strength in 2016, and was only decent in other years because BBK covered up everyone else. Azeem and Bierra got worse the more they played. Wellington and Manu are seniors and fucking terrible. Eifler transferring is at least some fault of Gregory for not feeling like he would be apart of the rotation. If the coaches actually thought Nick Bolton was really good they would have made an effort to keep him. They didn't because they thought someone like Tafisi would be just as good.RoadDawg55 said:We have had some misses in recruiting at LB and some bad luck. Jimmy Lake had two players leave early for the NFL, one starter medically retire, another would be senior leave. He was able to figure it out with a bunch of freshman because he's a good coach. Gregory is starting two Seniors! I don't feel like making excuses for him. -

If we took Bolton and Merlin over Tafisi and Sirmon we would be in a much better place. Evaluating is very fucking important. None of them were highly sought recruits. All were pretty mid level. We chose the wrong ones.FirePete said:

I've had to forgive Sirmon for being the chief misinformation supplier to dawgman. I always thought he was a quality coach and recruiter though.
When Sark hired Wilcox and Sirmon away from Tenn, their fans were more upset about losing Sirmon than Wilcox due to his recruiting. -
Bolton had potential and was athletic but people here didn't seem to like his measurables. Too short and shit.RoadDawg55 said:

Merlin was awesome but the staff appeared to cool on him because of grades? Or because he had a kid? Not that having a kid is a no no since Murphy had one too. -
Merlin was a high level prospect. The west was just stacked at linebacker that year so maybe he was not a super high rating. He was certainly a better prospect than sirmon or tafisi who I still have not given up on. Just a different level of player though.RoadDawg55 said:

Gregory probably has a lot of knowledge and is a capable dc for many schools. When you are trying to win at a very high level though you can’t have a position coach let his group preform this poorly. And again, there is no fix on the horizon for it. It in all likelihood is going to cost us a conference title. That sucks.
These are things you can see in advance like with the previous wr coaches or what is likely to happen in a year or two at tight end. -

I think he will do well there and Herm coaches up a strong defense with a good staff.
But it’s quite the fall for this kid. I feel bad for him. Gotta lock up your spot earlier and earlier these days. -

Banks reached out to ASU LB coach Antonio Pierce and things moved quickly from there.
“AP is a great guy and a great coach," Banks said. “I hit him up and explained what was going on and he told me they definitely had a spot for me. We have a great connection and he told me they love how I play and said I would really fit in well there.”
“I talked to Herm Edwards too and that was really the first time I've had a chance to do that.”
Banks has visited ASU before but not since Herm Edwards and the new staff took over.
"I went a few years ago with Pro-Way, my 7v7 team," Banks said. "I visited a few times actually but not since coach Herm got there so I'm exited to get back.”
That says it all. The hot ticket of last summer had a cataclysmic fall and was not the “take no matter what” guy that BTP and LMC melted down about.
I thought he was really good and love adding talented kids, but when all the big hitters drop off and the kid has to call ASU and ask if there is a spot for him when he has never visited with the current staff, you know it’s bad.
