So you're saying @dnc that Roof ain't read the good news in the original Koine Greek?
Churches switching up the traditional liturgy always throws me off my game.

Wait a second..... @Doog_de_Jour is catholic....like a catholic school girl?!?!

@swaye's restraining order, @swaye's restraining order....just keep repeating that....it will keep the Throbber out of trouble.....@swaye's restraining order. Breathe....Betty White's panties....hilary clinton......

Sorry to crush your fantasies Throbber, but I was raised Lutheran...which is basically Catholic-Lite (“Now With Fewer Sacraments!”) and went to a public school.

But I can relate to a lot of what John Mulaney is saying. I went to Christmas services a few years back with the family and the ELCA “updated” the hymnal. I was super pissed because I was so used to robotically repeating the same lines from my childhood I had to actually pay attention.

This is BS. If it's the word of God, it don't need updating. God spoke in Hebrew Greek Latin, not Engrish.

If Aramaic was good enough for Jesus Christ, than it’s good enough for me!

Fellow raised Lutheran. I remember as a kid wondering if the Pastor actually believed in God. The parsonage was at the Olympia Country Club

The youth pastor got in hot water for telling the teens they had to be born again. Quite controversial

This thread has made me very grateful I didn't grow up in a high church/liturgical environment.

Was your church Missouri Synod? They tended to be super conservative (I still don’t know if they allow female pastors), so I could see them being down with the born agains.

My congregation was actually pretty liberal (again, ELCA), especially for Eastern Washington. Nobody gave me any shit when I was a little kid and pointed out how the creation story was bullshit...to my Sunday School teacher’s credit she gently conceded it was a myth and educated us on similar stories in other cultures.

But heaven help you if you dared misbehaved at the annual pancake feed that came right before Ash Wednesday!

It may have been Missouri Synod but it was Olympia liberal. The youth pastor was an outlier and didn't last long

One of the associate pastors became a big wheel in the anti war movement
