The gubermint has really used 9/11 effectively to make us think there's a terrorist around every corner and take our liberties away. The only terrorist attacks we've stopped are the ones hatched by the FBI.

I was in basic training when September 11th happened and did my four years of active time after. Being at Baghram when there was a chain-link fence instead of a 20ft high concrete wall working under complete darkness with our NVG's on as we dropped $50k a piece GBU-12's with $50 million aircraft on what we would consider transients here makes you realize who the terrorists are. Can a bum take the fight to someone 3,500 miles away? Nope.
Remember the "laser that could blind pilots" scare tactic. There were supposed to be lasers that terrorists would shine into the cockpit of civilian airliners that would blind the pilots and make them crash. They John Stewart on the Daily Show asks, "Why wouldn't they just take it to a NASCAR race and blind 100,000 people in two minutes?" Of course that threat disappeared.
When was the last time someone walked into a diner with a Jan-Sport full of C-4? That shit happens in Israel every week. In America? Never. Gabby Giffords was shot by a white guy. The crazy Colorado movie theater guy was white. School shooters are white or Asian.
More people will die from normal reactions to prescription drugs in America this year than what terrorists will kill in 500 years.

Democide (death by government...and this does not count wars, it's by your own government) is the highest killer in the history of the world. Higher than cancer, car wrecks, etc. As you pointed out with the drug thing, you are more likely to die of a bee sting than a terrorist attack, yet we have to walk around on pins and needles because some boogeyman al qaeda might get you. I was a young naive republican during the Bush days but looking back he killed more civil liberties than all the other presidents combined. And yet "the most transparent administration in history" has put the Bush policies on steroids. The 2 party system is a complete sham, they are all owned by the same people and nothing will ever change unless the people take back their government. I can't help but correlate this with what's going on with doogman and a site like this. Those that believe everything they're told, love being spoon fed and go along with the status quo are perfect for doogman. But people who think for themselves and snap out of their trance and say "what the fuck?" when they are told "5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 is progress" navigate to hardcorehusky where people actually have minds of their own.
