As a youth we flew to Detroit to get a station wagon from the factory and drive it back home. We spent a night in Indiana. I vividly recall my Mother proclaiming "No wonder they call them Hoosiers" as we left a cafe. I think we got ripped off. I was like 5 years old but for my Mother to get upset like that was unusual. I was born in Indiana and have family there. Can confirm it is a shithole.

The only part of the Midwest is the extreme north, but the winters are screwed. I have relatives all over upstate Wiscy and Mich. bunch of yoopers. and relatives Indiana, Illinois, and greater Detroit, Minneapolis, Milwaukie.

You have to be further north, like up around Traverse City, MI before the Midwest stops sucking balls. It's actually pretty nice up in that zone.
