So this weekend I took my first stab at making the @Dennis_DeYoung recommended Mai Tai recipi based on Trader Vic's OG take. It was damn good, but something was off, almost like it tasted to much like a daiquiri with some Curacao. Then I realized what a stupid fuck I was in that a Mai Tai requires BOTH light and dark rums. Grabbed some Bicardi 8 year old from Target. The dark rum is what makes the Mai Tai. And the Bircardi 8 year old is damn good, well aged rum for $23 retail. It's no Plantation 10 year old but it's like 1/3 of the price. Highly recommend.

Completely agree. I don't tend to keep much rum on hand but this is a staple for me.
