You're not wrong, it doesn't seem like a big deal anymore.
* Desensitization. The first time you see a dude getting double fisted you are shocked, but by the 20th time it would be weird if it was just a single fist.
* Colleges make money from football, the NCAA makes money from March Madness. It's about to be one billion per year. You're not going to fuck over your billion dollar business.
* It's not even the colleges or boosters who are bankrolling most of this, it's shoe companies. Adidas will make an internal decision if someone belong at Louisville or Kansas, while Nike will decide if a kid goes to Kentucky or Arizona. Are the colleges willing participants? Yes. Why does no one care? See the previous poont about a billion fucking dollars being involved.
* This is basketball, but the same probably applies to football: if the NCAA fucks enough teams hard enough then the system will collapse once people having nothing to lose. Also, please refer to how much money is involved. The only people who want a program fucked are fans of their opponents. Just the other day some asshole in court basically said it's a known fact that Clemson boosters pay and people barely gave a fuck. Ole Miss cheated as hard as their sanctimonious coach did when he was railing those hookers, and it was the hookers and not playing the recruits that got him fired. -
I have a hard to believing the #1 football recruit goes to Oregon without Nike “helping” his parents with a few things.RatherBeBrewing said:You're not wrong, it doesn't seem like a big deal anymore.

That's almost a certainty, the pool of wealthy 5-star recruit families who pass on money and benefits isn't very deep. The booster networks are still amateur hour on the West Coast compared to the SEC and Texas. The thing that surprised me is that someone keeps giving money to even marginal contributors throughout their college careers. I'm further surprised Phil doesn't just earmark some couch cushion money towards getting a top-5 class every year.MikeDamone said:

Lack of institutional control? Would have been in 1992.
