Is there any other choice for home sound system these days?

Walls and ceilings are bare of drywall right now so now is decision time.

Thoughts?

Prayers?

Do you just want to pipe background music throughout the house? If yes, people seem to really dig Sonos. But they aren’t a player in the hi fi market if you’re doing a dedicated listening room.

Sort of - the Soundbar works fine for TV and adding a couple strategically placed 1's make for nice surround sound. But it's not necessarily designed to be a home theater sound system replacement.

Point taken on music throughout house. Being able to control and/or group speakers is cool. The integration to Apple Music, Amazon music, Spotify is pretty tight.

Using the controller app to fuck with the wife's choice of music also provides hours of annoyance fun.

I will admit I’m a bad guy to ask on mutil channel home theater stuff. But I know 2 channel hi fi (especially analog) very well but that advice isn’t of use to most folks.

I've got the soundbar paired with a couple play 1's and the sub which makes for a pretty good theater system. It's probably not quite as good as a traditional amp and surround system but it's easy to use, sounds good and I'm not trying to recreate the Cinerama in my Dad's basement. The sub was a splurge, system sounds okay without it but if you're going all in I'd consider adding it to the mix.

Probably great room, kitchen and nook/bar area listening to music and sometimes a ball game. Basement has the home theatre.

I’m no @HarveyRoad so I’m cool with cranking up compressed old man music on a wifi music system. No reel to reel listening room.

Even as a tech illiterate, I could not be happier with SONOS. I suggest the Playbase over the sound bar. The sub helps take the bass pressure off the Playbase, which leads to better mid and high range sound quality. Tune In for radio stations and Sirius are good sound services through the system. In 5.1 mode, the rumbling audio lead ins to Netflix and HBO shows almost knocks my trailer off the cement blocks.

Yeah - I'd go with the Playbar now but they didn't have that when Mrs. Throbber broke into the piggy bank and bought me the soundbar.

It's the 18% interest she's charging me that really pisses me off......

Those are Wilson Audio speakers at about $60 or $70k retail. Their founder just died. Dedicated mono block power amps. This is prolly a $150 k system all in.
