Tacoma teacher against ethnic studies says diversity divides us

https://www.thenewstribune.com/opinion/article227315034.html
A teacher in Tacoma says he is trying to have an open discussion about important issues, but other teachers say he is spewing hate. The conversation surrounds House Bill 1314, which is a proposal to make ethnic studies a required curriculum in Washington schools.

This teacher frankly needs to be removed. His opinions are outdated and as close to segregation policy as I have seen in the last few years. To espouse these views not just in public but as an opinion piece shines a dramatic light upon his private views, and the fact that the Tribune published it also speaks volumes.
Diversity is not what Lincoln was talking about when he said a house dived would fall and to use those words imparts a gross misunderstanding of the subject in which the speaker was referring to.
I don't want this teacher even speaking to my child, much less teaching him.
He is as outdated and harmful as the racist rhetoric he's pushing. Get him out. Now. -
According to Mr. Jankanish we should continue teaching the history based on the Northern European, Anglo-Saxon, white male viewpoint. He seems to think this version of history is the only one which has any validity. Yes, immigrants do eagerly seek to learn English and integrate into American culture. They love this country and want to succeed. However, we all need to learn other views and learn the stories of people who were overlooked - women, Native Americans, African Americans, and other minorities who made this nation great. It is possible to involve both views into a history and/or political science class. I hope Mr. Jankanish will be open to more than the Anglo-Saxon, white male version of history.

The leftists are going crazy in the comments. Who is Scott Livingston? Does he poast hear?

@CuntWaffle: Why are you cutting and pasting other people's comments lifted from the TNT's comment section instead of producing an original thought of your own?
And why are you demonstrating the group-think mentality that possesses the left, i.e., where nobody thinks for themselves, but instead parrots a narrative? -
Maybe you should worry less about racism and go back to the rez to sniff gasSwaye said:The leftists are going crazy in the comments. Who is Scott Livingston? Does he poast hear?

Here's the author's actual words - in contrast to the plagiarized narratives posted above.
HB 1314 is a bad idea and should not be approved. The great goal of the common neighborhood public schools was to provide an environment where children of immigrants would, over time, be welcomed into the common American culture.
Even immigrant adults would attend night schools to learn English as quickly as possible.
To become “American” did not mean immigrants had to forgo the language and ceremonial life of their country of origin. However, most made it their primary goal to enter into the common culture as quickly as possible.
Of course, this increasing emphasis on cultural diversity is not just about school curriculum but part of a larger agenda to implement the goals of identity politics.
This way of thinking is based on the assumption that certain groups of Americans are inherently marginalized in our society and are the victims of ongoing discrimination.
But the increasing emphasis on some identifying characteristic, such as race, gender, sexual orientation or nationality, undermines a historical American achievement:
Creating institutions, like broad-based political parties, has served to unite diverse groups around policy proposals that bond Americans to a common enterprise. Even if this goal has not always been realized, it was assumed the effort ought to always point toward its achievement.
The real problem is this: The proponents of measures like HB 1314 no longer support the American experiment. They don’t want to encourage new immigrants and new citizens to integrate. They think America is inherently racist and discriminatory at every turn.

Typical narrative-pushing comment: "enter into the common culture" = submit to white supremacist patriarchy. (direct quote from Lefty TNT commenter)

I think you're missing the political tie-in.
Diversity of viewpoints is intolerable anymore. More than 1/2 the TNT commenters want the guy fired for disagreeing with the Far Left orthodoxy that says America is one big pile of shit. -

I think he is correct in that people need to be Americans. So many aren't. -
And in Ivy League schools we now have segregated dorms, segregated classes and segregated ski trips - all by race. What's that? Progressivism?MikeDamone said:

My favorite "diversity" supporting comment:
--------------------------------
This land was Mexican once,
was Indian always
and is.
And will be again.
Don't lecture me about assimilation.
---------------------------------
I've said it a million times: It's about Power. No more, no less.
Modern Leftism is not about equality or fairness; It's about Revenge.
@Swaye: Those dinosaurs will come calling someday, so you're gonna want a bigger gun.
