@LebamDawg

Thought about talking about a Rolex, but instead am going with another maker that is part of the Rolex DNA in a way. Zenith. No, this isn't the TV maker of yesteryear.

Zenith got it's start in Switzerland in 1865. To this day Zenith is widely credited with having created the first commercially viable automatic chronograph movements for a wrist watch. In development since 1962, but not released commercially until 1969, it is still to this day considered a technical marvel. Called the El Primero (guess why), it still beats in some fine watches, and was the chrono of choice for Rolex from 1988-2000 to power the Daytona. When Rolex comes to you because your chrono is better than what they can make, you know you are the tits. Still relatively unique for beating at 36,000 VpH (vibrations per hour), which is extremely fast, allowing for 1/10 second intervals per beat. Still faster than almost any chrono today, the effect of that rapid pace means Zenith chrono hands can sweep, as opposed to tick.

I have owned one El Primero, and I loved it. Ended up trading it in on a Rolex swap, but glad I have owned a watch with their history. Watch porn of some hawt El Primero models:

Nice examples of Zeniths can be had between 4-6K on the grey or secondary market, and slightly more new. Of course, they have references that are much more expensive in precious metals, but everyone here is poor so no reason to discuss that with you losers. Until next time watch nerds...

    I had a Breitling Navitimer and lost it in a move and I don’t want to talk about watches anymore. :(

    I had a Breitling Montbrilliant Moonphase once. Loved that watch. Flipped it for an Omega. Cool story, I know. Sorry you lost your watch. Navi's are/were bad ass, though the new ones leave me a little cold. Get a new watch Dennis. You'll feel better.

    Goddammit, I had a fucking Montbrilliant and lost it. Not a navitimer. That's how traumatized I am. I lost it 5 years ago when I moved out here.

    I'm upset about it, ok? Part of the weird aspect of living in the SE US is that the white people here don't have the protestant work ethic and there are no mexicans, so it's been very hard for me to find reliable workers (all poors here are on meth). I promised myself when I got my house finished I'd buy a new watch.

    I'll do it then. FUCK I NEEDED A TRIGGER WARNING.

    Man, the Montbrilliants are cool. They discontinued them now. Breitling has a new CEO (used to be the head dude at IWC) and they have totally revamped their lineup. Fuck it, just get a Rolex and be done with it. I messed around with Breitlings and Omegas for a few years until I finally realized the only watch that is kick ass AND holds it value is a Rolex. Other watches are like cars - you lose 30% as soon as it is off the lot. Or buy used and let someone else take the huge hit.

    Can someone suggest a watch for me that is not insanely expensive? Like, under $500. Also, every watch I have ever tried (which is not many) on looks weird on me. Not sure what it is, but they never look right.

    Citizen Eco drives can be had for under 500 bucks. If you want to step up a bit from that go to Jomashop and look at Hamilton watches. Plenty can be had for under 500 bucks. Nice watches as well.

    There’s a ton of micro brands for under $500.00; can you narrow it down?

    This is a great deal for this watch. I’m not a fan of the ‘open heart’ design, but it seems to be popular. Orient watches, and Orient Star watches specifically (the higher end line), are always good bang for the buck watches as long as you don’t pay retail. Stay away from the Orient 3 star watches as that’s the WalMart line.
