#1 James BrownJames Brown will be tough to defeat by anyone in this tournament. Arguably, the greatest front man of all tim, regardless of any genre. His cape is the greatest props ever in the history of music...

#8 Smokey RobinsonI love James Brown.... love him. But in my opinion Smokey wins for 2 reasons:
1) Maybe the greatest voice in soul music. He's so fucking smooth it hurts.
2) James Brown has a bigger catalog but Smokey has better hits. Baby Baby Don't Cry and Track Of My Tears are better than any James Brown track(Daryl Hall from Hall and Oates called 'Tracks Of My Tears' "the only perfect song ever made").
Like I said, I fucking love James Brown but he was more of a showman than a refined musical artist in my opinion. That being said here is my favorite song from both:
The JB's - You Can Have Watergatehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYv7O4iD_xU
Smokey Robinson - Baby Baby Don't Cryhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_45gwZ7vXAg

Smokey had some monster hits and perhaps the most silky smooth voice ever in the genre. ATBSJBS, I don't know if anyone's can top James Brown's influence on the evolution BOTH of soul and funk music. Remember, he was the key figure along with Ray Charles and Sam Cooke in the transition from 50s R&B into what became soul music in the 60's. Then in the late 60's, he pretty much invented funk on his own. To me, this one is no contest in spite of how great Smokey Robinson was.ToddTurnerLIVES said:I love James Brown.... love him. #8 Smokey RobinsonSmokey should never be an 8 seed ... and that being said, while James Brown is great ... I would never listen to a long stretch of his ... you could play Smokey on loop for me and I've got no problem with that going for hours.

#8 Smokey RobinsonAnd James Brown won't win this thing ... I'd be shocked if he did
-
#1 James Brown
I think he can win this bracket but it’s no gimme. After that, who knows. Of all the tourneys we’ve done I think this genre has the most uncertainty of the final outcome.Tequilla said:And James Brown won't win this thing ... I'd be shocked if he did

James is a really weird guy - I COMPLETELY ENDORSE tales from the tour bus. That shit is super epic.
That said, this is one of my favorite songs of all time...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=istJXUJJP0g
