Nebraska pissed away their advantages a long time ago. If they were a smart program , they would be on the phone with George Kleeeeeoooovaakofff to make the the future PAC-10, the PAC-11, so they can again raid the Central Valley and Inland Empire regions of California.
Whether or not Nebraska can be a power again is sort of irrelevant to this (poaching coaches). With the chasm in $ now happening between Big 10/SEC & everyone else, they can easily double salaries (maybe more). That includes assistant coach salaries, support staff, recruiting budgets, etc.
With the exception of dudes like Petersen, who really aren't motivated by the money, every coach in every other conference is vulnerable to being poached. And the Petersens of the world are few and far between.
It's already started a bit, but it’s going to be open season soon. Like others have said, DeBoner hasn’t done enough to warrant that interest yet. But imagine if a Nebraska or Iowa was to call and say they’ll pay him $6M/yr and double his staff budget. You think he’s turning that down?
And even if Kalen for some reason loves UW and wants to stay, if he’s successful they’ll raid his staff.
He’s a natural for the Nebraska job. He knows that area for recruiting and is spectacular in the living room of big corn fed farm bois. He’s legendary in that part of the country. Probably coach for life if he wants it.
Also, he’s probably figured out by now that Washington isn’t serious about football and is more into LGTBQ diversity, equity and inclusion than football championships. Not to mention playing in a sold out stadium every week regardless of any broadway shows or traffic on I-80 would be appealing.
He has a tougher schedule next year and loses top talent. Make some hay while the sun shines and cash in.

Not particularly close to Nebraska, and right next to Minnesota
I dont think we have too much to worry about with him wanting to go coach someplace near where he grew up, so long as we empty the coffers to keep him
Given the history of UW ADs it could be much, much worse
If she does better on NIL and the basketball team gets it shit together, we can upgrade her to "good"
Ok, maybe she's better than Turner. I'd welcome Babs back if it meant Jen's out. Sark>Ty

Plus, I hear his wife LOVES the Nebraska/SD area.
