    This is like the fucking twilight zone. You are watching Specoli all of the sudden sober up.

    A bunch of pot heads and politicians thought they had hit the jackpot. They could legally grow, distribute and sell pot. Its all natural they said! Clothes are made from it. Its just a plant! Hooray! A drug that comes from mother earth!

    Now they are bitching about high taxes. Something I am quite positive none of the users and growers EVER complained about prior to growing it legally.

    In addition they had no idea how difficult the environmentalist whacko's in CA were going to be do deal with. All natural! From mother earth! What could be the problem?

    Thirdly, you see quotes like this about a mind altering drug coming from the highest office in the state: “Gov. Newsom is dedicated to the success of the legal cannabis industry in California,”

    Don't get me wrong. I could give a shit if you smoke pot. I really don't care that it is legal either. I also understand there are advantages for medical patients who use it but I also know plenty of people who fried their brains out smoking too much, especially those I knew in High School and college.

    Hence, the whole article reads like it is from another planet. They want to grow and smoke pot. They had no idea what it was going to be like when it was regulated and they were having to deal with environmentalist laws.

    The fucking politicians stupidly killed the growth. Made it too difficult and now it is not near the cash cow they had hoped it would be. Its like they want the whole fucking state to be in a constant stoned state so they can make billions in taxes.

    WTF is wrong with this picture? Where does this all end? Its comical if nothing else.

    How fucking mismanaged must that industry be that they need a bailout? They should be making money hand over fist.

    Many cannabis growers, retailers and manufacturers have struggled to make the transition from a provisional, temporary license to a permanent one renewed on an annual basis — a process that requires a costly, complicated and time-consuming review of the negative environmental effects involved in a business and a plan for reducing those harms. As a result, about 82% of the state’s cannabis licensees still held provisional licenses as of April, according to the governor’s office. The funds, including $22 million earmarked for L.A., would help cities hire experts and staff to assist businesses in completing the environmental studies and transitioning the licenses to “help legitimate businesses succeed,” Ting said.

    Is there anything more California than this? Retailers are still losing out to illegal weed dealers (which is astounding to me given the difference in quality) because of over burdensome regulations and taxes. So instead of paring back those onerous regulations, they're going to just throw money at the problem to help business owners navigate their own boondoggle.
    California gonna California.

    I was buying weed on the street as recently as a few years ago even at my advanced age. I welcomed the chance to buy it at a dispensary after my last trip to a San Bernardino bowling alley to get an ounce.

    Quality is better as you said and it is safer but holy fuckal they are jacking the prices due to taxes. When I first started medical MJ the price was a tad lower than the street. Then the state got involved and everyone loses

    Legalizing a formerly "dangerous" product in order to tax is incredibly cynical.

    Liberalism at its finest. If it moves tax it. If it keeps moving regulate it. If it stops moving subsidize it.

    It’s surprising because the couple of weed stores I frequented in LA were always booming. I realize not every one was like that, but many of them were.

    They lose money on every transacton but make up for it in volume

    They are generally doing good bidness. I go to Lake Elsinore because we don't smoke marijuana in Temecula

    We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee;
    We don't take no trips on LSD
    We don't burn no draft cards down on Main Street;
    We like livin' right, and bein'.

    Retail makes money.

    Grow operations can get wiped out in a heartbeat like any other crop. You get bad bugs, aphids, whatever...waste of 12 weeks. Plus you’ve got the artist/craft growers who couldn’t read a balance sheet to save their lives.

    Local municipalities are also now imposing weed taxes to the already burdensome state tax.

    Same thing happened in Washington until there was a shakeout of growers and bad business people.
