Covid Mask Update IRL

AtomicPissAtomicPiss Administrator, Swaye's Wigwam Posts: 64,471 Founders Club
I just back from a Kirkland grocery store. When I walked in, there was a sign that said masks were encouraged but not mandated. I was stunned and immediately took my mask off. As I walked around the store, I noticed that I was the only maskless person there. I talked to an employee and asked why she was wearing one. She said she had gotten used to it and was fine with it.

So that was interesting.

I live in a nearby city where 85% of people 12+ have been vaccinated. Saw the same shit, it is alarming.

I think there’s an excellent chance we shop at the same Kirkland grocery stores.

Okay, so at my store we, as employees, are required to continue wearing a mask. We will let people in without a mask if they are vaccinated but it is being run on the honor code. No paperwork required. We have maybe three people an hour come in without a mask. Most say that they aren't taking it off. Many vaccinated customers say removing it feels weird to them. I want to scream in their faces that wanting to wear a mask when you are virtually immune to the virus you fear is weird! The last 15 months of fear porn and doomsday prognostications has mentally fissured a majority of the public. It's shocking. We as Americans have been divided for years religiously, politically, racially and now we are divided scientifically. I had a fully masked, gloved and vaccinated lady the other day call the one guy in the store not masked up "dirty" and "uneducated". I'm beaten down and tired of it all. 14 months of scared and broken people that I've had to cater to has in turn broken me. Not the virus.

The difference between free states and blue states is stunning, same goes with the origin of flight crews. I just had the displeasure of experiencing some of this firsthand. Seattle based crews are mask Nazis, fuck those asshats. Those from the southeast are much more relaxed, appreciate them, they’re genuine charms. Wearing a mask at a grocery store, bar or restaurant in a free state is now the exception, even including many staff members, love the freedom. Not so in blue states, where dictators and sheeple appear to continue to high step in unison. I do believe this will eventually change, but it is something to witness firsthand the current difference.

True, I’ve stopped talking to my Portland and Seattle family because they’re too entrapped in the bullshit to even want to see the truth. If they saw the truth they’d have no path forward without revolt and they don’t want to do that.
