I thought at the time that Romar got too comfortable. That seems to be a common thread at UW where expectations are never too high as to cause discomfort among the staff in football or basketball -
Tequila, you appear to be fairly out of touch with reality. Nothing new. Internet tough guy too. Impressive. Romar brought in three current NBA players in 2017 and three other guys, at least two of which are likely future pros in Daejon and Diarra.
That was before UW had a chance to improve the roster in Spring/Summer 2017. Michael Porter Sr. was able to get Tillmon to go to Mizzou and got a visit from Knox. UW would've gotten a visit from Knox, Bamba and probably a few others.
Bigtime 2017 guys who wanted to play on a team with four future NBA players (including Thybulle). In 2018, Romar was the first high major guy to offer Bol Bol and got him to commit to 'Zona, before Miller's issues made him decommit and go to Oregon.
Romar/UW had a great shot at Immanuel Quickly, another current NBA budding star, through Fultz. I doubt Romar would've passed on Elleby and he may have gotten Kevin Porter Jr. He easily would've gotten Mathews (and that's based on private discussions with Mathews).
UW would've had way more talent and if you don't think Romar would've won with that type of talent, you aren't well informed about UW 2004-2012. Hop did a nice job of taking advantage of Thybulle's skill in his zone, but I believe Dollar had a lot to do with UW having a great defense in Hop's first two years.
Romar would have hired Dollar, to replace Chillious, in all likelihood. Hop did a horrible job of utilizing an absolute beast offensively on a Pac-12 level in Stewart. Just abysmal. Hop does a nice job of getting teams to play defense, but is somewhat limited in mitigating mismatches (UNDERSTATEMENT).
He just keeps going with stuff that doesn't work, the definition of insanity. His teams have had a negative assist to turnover ratio for four straight years. This is something that coaches with much less experience would be able to identify and correct.
Hop just flounders. The rebounding is so bad it's an all-time embarrassment at UW. Romar did nothing of the sort. You're not an insufferable ass like me I guess. But you're completely incapable of addressing me on this topic I'd also guess.

This isn’t a Romar vs Hop situation
This is LoRo fell flat on his face for how many straight years? 6 straight years making the NCAAs. Just came off a 9-22 year with the #1 pick on his roster.
So while everything you say may be true, missing the tournament 6 straight years basically erodes any trust that one has to get the benefit of the doubt.
Basically, what LoRo was selling at the end, and what you’ve had your head firmly up Romar’s ass ever since his firing, was this promise of brighter days ahead with no evidence of delivering results. Simply put, hoping and praying isn’t a strategy.
Moreover, after LoRo is fired and Hopkins comes in with immediate success with LoRo’s players ... it’s really hard to not feel justified with the decision to fire Romar. It was earned.
Now, Hopkins will be judged based on his performance just like Romar was. Assuming Hopkins won’t turn things around next year (and there aren’t huge reasons to bet on him to do so), he rightfully should be fired as well. His seat rightfully should be warm.
The issue at this point is that Cohen made 2 bad to horrific hires with her first hoops hires. She appears to have been smart enough to get out of the way and allow what looks to be a really good women’s hire. If/When Hopkins gets fired, hopefully she’s smart enough to get out of the way again. They have about 10 months to do their due diligence and be prepared to make their next hire.
The reality is that you’ll never get off the Romar soapbox under any situation ... it’s an old and tired narrative. If that’s your purpose and goal you’ll get skewered because the facts aren’t on your side regardless of what coulda woulda shoulda story you spin. If you want to talk about what hires make sense after moving from Hop, what’s needed to connect locally, etc, those are valuable conversations.

Romar ain't coming back. He was god awful. Hop perpetuated god awful by bringing in two of Romar's assistants in Dollar and Conroy. Because he probably thought the Seattle AAU connection was so plentiful even though the UW has gotten scraps since the Brockman/Hawes/IT days.
