Tokyo (CNN)Yoshiro Mori, the president of the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee, apologized Thursday after comments he made suggesting women talk too much during meetings were leaked to the Japanese media.

Mori, a former Prime Minister, made the comments at an Olympics board of trustees event Wednesday. When asked about the Japan Olympic Committee's goal of increasing the number of women on its board of directors from 20% to 40%, Mori said he was concerned about how that would affect the length of meetings.

He reportedly said "board meetings with lots of women take longer" because "women are competitive -- if one member raises their hand to speak, others might think they need to talk too," according to reports in the Japanese press. "If you want to increase female membership, you would be in trouble unless you put time limits in place," he is reported to have added.

"If we increase the number of female board members, we have to make sure their speaking time is restricted somewhat, they have difficulty finishing, which is annoying," Mr Mori was quoted as saying by the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

"We have about seven women at the organising committee but everyone understands their place," he said.

As a person who hates all meetings and believes no meeting should take longer than 15 minutes I would have to say this guy is onto something.

I hate most meeting too. But women aren't the worst. Get a narcissistic man in front of a room and then look out.

His apology is even better -

At a press conference on Thursday, he was asked on what basis he said women board members were too long-winded.

"I don't talk to women that much lately, so I don't know," Mr Mori replied.

I agree, it's more a personality type than gender. But my experience with working with teams made up mostly of women is that they love to have meetings.

I learned a German proverb while in Europe.

“Everything has already been said, but not by everyone”

Basically ideas have to bounce around until everyone gets to say it in their own way. Germans hate unnecessary talking.

The worst part of any meeting, other than the initial conversation involving what everyone did with their weekend, and yes women are much more guilty of this. "Does anyone else have anything to add?" Rarely if ever is there anything "added" that is of any fucking value. Hate meetings. Most all meetings can be avoided with just a simple email and if anyone has any questions they can confer with the person who sent the email.

It was funny but I can tell you from jobsite meetings that a lot of dudes love to hear themselves talk.

If Japanese women are liberated then the war is over and we? lost

It was. Women are fine in construction management and now that's pretty much all you get from the big firms. I should say they were. The first generation didn't want anything other than a shot. Now we get woke college grads that don't know shit and don't want to hear it
