this policy of not acknowledging that fans are entitled to a refund if they so choose is just a class action suit waiting to happen
of course they are hoping for a donation, however it’s an act of bad faith to hold people hostage for a product that you can not deliver
breathlessly speaking the obvious:
this isn’t any different than any other business that has to close their doors and not operate... plenty of businesses and individuals are in the tank and can no longer afford to operate -
Four pages and not a single counter offer to Jen demanding she flash her puppies in exchange for $$$$$.

The AD has been handed a shit sandwich, and they're holding their nose and eating it. I get making fun of it, and I get not wanting to pay for a nonexistent product (I'm not going to either), but I don't get all the anger. I've gotten emails from many of the struggling businesses I patronize asking for help from the community in order to prevent the doors from permanently closing. Hell, I just bought $150 worth of beer from one such Sarah McLachlandesque email sender just yesterday after a pretty pathetic plea for help. It's not unique to UW.
I get the distinct impression this bitterness has far more to do with open wounds from following a Skwaad that very suddenly became looserers in both revenue sports seemingly overnight in 2019 than with their completely predictable and common response to COVID in 2020. -

The Athletic Departments have been getting the shaft in the financial coffers from the ineptitude of Larry Scott and the P12 Network
The latency and tone deafness of Jen in instituting budget cuts has just continued to expand the financial gaps ... as a leader she’s leading by example ... if she won’t take a substantial budget cut how can she ask anybody else to?
In the end it’s the cumulative effect ... the solution has been let’s hit up our rich alumni base to pay the bills instead of holding ourselves accountable. Without going full Tug, it’s the same situation we see with Seattle/King County/Washington government as a whole of the solution to everything is more taxes.
Until the AD operates in an efficient and lean matter that expresses that they have a collective hunger vs operating as far and happy cats these kinds of criticisms are 100% on point and on brand. -

I agree with all this but will add one thing. The athletic departments have been getting the shaft, but whose fault is it that Backhand Larry is still in power? The universities could replace him but choose not to do so.Tequilla said:@Baseman and @Doog_de_Jour are spot on

Incorrect. There is no option for refund for the seat-related tyee donation. There is only an option to roll it over to 2021. There is only a 3rd option for refund of the tickets and parking pass.

Here’s the imperfect analogy I can come up with...
There was this great independent used bookstore I frequented back in the day. I loved the atmosphere, the staff was warm & helpful, if I couldn’t find something on the shelves, they’d order it or make a note to call when it came in...you get the idea.
As time went on and the rise of Barnes & Noble / Amazon began, they started struggling a bit. I wanted to continue to support small businesses, especially one that had been so good to me, I bought as much there as I could.
As the months went on the staff started to turn over, replaced by young kids who looked annoyed or were straight up rude when I’d ask for help. The space began to get cluttered with excess inventory spilling into the aisles. The hours got reduced, and when they were supposed to be open they were not.
One day I overheard a conversation of the clerk getting into it with another customer when they innocently said they’d buy the book online instead. “We’re probably going to go under because of people like you” the cashier spat. I was mortified and left.
Months later I saw a poster in their window saying “Save Your Independent Bookstores!” (I guess some developer was about to buy the building.) I shook my head in disgust.
UW football is like that bookstore. Something I used to love. It’s getting hit hard by market forces outside its control, but it’s also slow in recognizing (and fixing) how they are contributing to the problem. -
In addition, I made a respectful email to express an opinion that I thought the refusal for a 3rd option to refund a seat related donation was a poor choice despite the current environment and issues and thought it would lead to fewer donations. The AD called back to literally bitch me out. That’s the customer service being provided “All in!!!!!” My ass. This is an AD that still takes its most loyal fans for granted and have done so for 30 years or so now.
