If you're Kaep, why put your body on the line for relative peanuts in a second-tier league? He's already made his money both inside and outside of football. I don't blame him for not risking injury if he believes he can still play at the game's highest level (IMO he can't).

He lost me for good with the pig socks, and sunk further with the workout charade. But not wanting to take less money to play in the XFL doesn't move the needle for me. Seems reasoned and understandable IMO. There's plenty else there to bag on.

You, I, the NFL and 99.9% of football fans if they are being honest, knew well in advance that the NFL holding a workout for Kaepernick, a guy who sued and successfully settled with the league for conspiring to keep him out of the league, would be different from just about any other workout that the NFL would normally participate in. The NFL has/had a vested interest in the narrative, however false it may be, that Kaepernick was not signed based off his talent or lack thereof. Knowing where the league interest lies there is no way Kaepernick would allow the NFL to control the situation to the point that no outside media would be allowed in, no one (not even Kaepernick himself) but the NFL would own the footage and the right to decide how much of it and in what form it's disseminated. Knowing the leagues interest in the process, Kaepernick upon signing that waiver, would have allowed the NFL to parse that footage to paint the workout in whatever form they deemed appropriate. The NFL knew that well in advance of sending over the waiver. If they were going to release the entire video footage in raw form to the media and other teams why not put in writing in the waiver? In reality both parties probably got what they wanted out of it anyway. The NFL is able to push the narrative that they gave Kaepernick every chance and he just didn't cut it which the Kaepernick haters can lap up and push out. Not hard at all. I don't know what the NFL would or wouldn't do with the footage but based on their past actions it's clear the NFL will do whatever they deem necessary to protect their own interest, players interests be damned. Add to that the strain of a relationship with Kaepernick that resulted in a lawsuit and settlement that got Kaepernick a large check from the league, and they damn well knew he wasn't signing that waiver. Kaepernick absolutely shares some of the responsibility for the charade (as I said earlier) but hell for all I know maybe it ended up exactly how he wanted it to. Far from "all in for this guy" but to be fair to you I understand why you try and paint me as such.
