but then again, if 10 is so cool, why would the XII be thinking about 12? Assuming this rumor is at all true.

Not far enough. Cut the rest of the dead weight and bring back the PAC-8.

Lets see. 7 conference games and 5 out of conference games. Good lucking scheduling those 5 ooc games. Liberty, UMass, Idaho State. You're as fucking stupid as Larry Scott.

    See ya in the playoffs!!!!11!111!!!

We used to do 4 non cons a year and had awesome schedules

No one wants to load up their schedule with a bunch of non con P5s. Axe the SEC.
Things change all the time in college football

Even the SEC wants P 5 match ups now

The B1G has to play power 5 teams
Not quite, the BIG recently changed their stance on NO FCS.

    https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/7/24/16020112/big-ten-fcs-opponents-football-scheduling

The SEC plays 8 conf but many have a permanent rivalry match-up with a non con P5, like Florida - Florida St.

Same with the ACC plus 5 teams play Notre Dame.

It would be tough for 8 teams to try to beef up their schedules to match the other P5s where most already play 9-10 P5s as it is.

You can kiss the playoffs good buy along with all the top west coast recruits. (already happening)

Pac 8 would be the WAC!

Yeah we'll have to wait a few years but the prevailing trend is towards an 8 team playoff. That means win the PAC 8 or PAC 10 and you are in even with 3 or 4 losses. Imagine being able to schedule tough again out of conference because it will all come down to winning your conference. Schedule might even drop back to 11 regular season games to accomodate the extra playoff round. In a PAC 8 you could have a round robin conference schedule and 4 OOC games based on A-B-C-C opponents. A boon for the fans who dont want to see North Dakota or Portland State anymore.
I doubt that 60ish P5 teams are going to be willing to give up a game just so 4 more teams can play in a play off. Pac 10 works, like it does for the XII.

I think the "prevailing trend" might be more toward 4 X 16 than 8 team playoff. But I'm not any smarter than any of you dumb fucks, so fuck off.

    Pac 8 is a pipe dream. More likely in a 4 X 16 alignment.
Couple of comments. I could live with a PAC 10. Round robin 9 conference games and ABC out of conference schedule. As far as going to an 11 game regular season. Essentially when we schedule North Dakota or Portland State that is giving up a game right there because the stadium is half empty. 16 is too many for a playoff as there are not 16 worthy teams each year. You could make a pretty good case for 8 worthy each year though.

Edit: I don't like the expanded 12 and 16 team conference idea. You should play everyone in your conference and determine a true champion over the season. The conference championship game is a stupid unnecessary idea that is TV driven and not that many people care as indicated by in game attendance.

It makes more sense for the Big 12 to take Colorado and Houston.

I'm fine with two 8-team divisions where you play the other 7 schools and 2 crossovers. Have the Pac-8 and leftover MW garbage meet in a conference championship game.

    This almost gives me wood.

I'm mainly sick of the need to go undefeated. College football is the only big time sport where there's such pressure to win every game just to be in the conversation at the end. The best teams in the NFLdrop a game or few with extremely rare exceptions. The only undefeated NFL team of my lifetime wasnt the best team at the end. Wild card teams have dominated the playoffs and even won the super bowl. Dominant NBA teams win about 7/8 games, equivalent to 14-2. In the majors it's about 5/8 or 10-6.

Shrink the conferences back down, give everyone 7 conference and four nonconference games, and expand the playoff and there would be no reason for the big time programs not to play each other.

I think the fix is relatively simple and everyone would benefit.

The BCS and the playoffs are killing college football
I’m always annoyed that people pretend strength of schedule actually matters. No matter how hard your schedule is, if a team loses two games, they aren’t making the playoff.
I agree with you 100%. Because of this, I'd like to see the Pac-12 flip the script and go 10 conference games plus 1 P5 ooc. I think it would be tough to keep a 2 loss team out. Force the issue. How could anyone NOT look at a 10 game conference schedule as an absolute meat grinder, cannibalizing fight to the death. How do you keep that champ out? I think it would work. Fuck that, go 11 conference games.

I already think that the Pac-12 is the most entertaining of all the conferences, this would bring it to the forefront.

The problem is that no one else shares this opinion. 9 games is killing us

Get rid of the playoffs or go to 8. Football was better before when we didn't have to listen to hot takes in September that the Pac 12 is out of the playoffs

I'd rather see great inter sectional games during the season

It boils down to Utah being the problem.
What? 3 of the 5 conferences play 9 games, and 5/14ths of the ACC does as well. SEC is the problem.

You have to get fans back in the stadiums. Scheduling in the last ten or so years has trended away from the big intersectional rivalries just because teams didn't want to risk a loss and jeopardize playoff hopes. Guaranteeing conference champs a spot takes the fear factor out of OOC scheduling. Give people a reason to attend by attractive matchups and decent start times and you've solved 90% of the fan attendance problem. College football is also missing out on at least one playoff round of "March Madness" by limiting the field to four teams. Give that number 8 seed, this year Oregon or Utah, a crack at Bama in the first round. I don't see any downside to it.

Let them go to the hell hole Big 12, where they will be a much better fit geographically and culturally.
