You just summed up in 100 words what "consultants/advisors/experts" want (and probably are) charging the UW AD hundreds of thousand of dollars to lie and tell them if you only do ......... the crowds will come back in droves.TommySQC said:

Next season have a "Turn Back the Clock" game at Husky Stadium. Don't have any piped in techno or rap music in the stadium. Let the marching band provide 100% of the music on the day. Don't have flashing lights pulsating throughout the stadium. Have the players wear throwback uniforms. Do little things to generate a college football environment instead of the NFL/WWF type of product you have now. You know exactly what I'm talking about because you experienced it too. Bring the soul back to Husky Stadium.
This is exactly why the entire west coast sucks ass and will never be like the SEC. They will always get the worst TV deal and times because of this shit. That's fine but don't fucking bitch about 7:30 starts. That's what you get and like Herbie says, you are lucky they acknowledge you at all.
I was part of the "if you win they will come" mantra and couldn't have been more fucking wrong. In the last 35 games we are 29-6 which is 83% and a home game against BYU with really nice weather and a decent start time has 30k people in their seats 15 minutes b4 kick-off, and 35k people when the team runs out of tunnel 5 minutes b4 kick, AND that includes having 5k BYU fans (which is 3k more than the typical Pac-12 team minus SC/UO/WSU brings) and 3k cheer squad kids/parents there.
If you can't get true sell outs (and having 10k empty seats doesn't count UW Public Address Announcer no matter what your telling me) in this environment, your not ever going to and that's the reality of UW football crowd wise and "the greatest setting in college football" LOFL -
The first thing they could do, which would put a little more excitement in the crowd that is there b4 we take the field, is to scrap that UW/Seattle shitty infomercial and put together highlight packages of past glories, highlights, and big hits. That is what gets people fired up. Running that shit in the SEC, and other places that care about college football would get the AD 70-110 thousand people booing the piss out of it.

A chin for TommySQC post

I think she should return the “highlights” of Steve Pool and his family responsibly recycling.
That tore the roof off the place!!

College kids want the 12:30 kickoffs back (late enough to sleep in, yet the game is done early enough to go out and party on a Saturday), and really good internet access for their smartphones. That’s it. Not rocket science.
I say this because the AD, by chasing after the young ones with things they *think* they want but don’t, has needlessly antagonized the rest of the fan base. I don’t see any harm in trying the throwback night (I went to a Mariners game years ago and they did something similar ー it was a big success). -

Former Husky Band icon and current Husky Band Alumni legend here.
The problem is that you have “gameday advisors,” or whatever the fuck they’re called, telling Cohen this is what people want in the stadium now, specifically anyone under 45. I don’t think the band providing 100% of the music would affect much since UW is not in the Big-10 and still struggles to find a consistent in-stadium atmosphere (fight song after every score). The PAC-12 just doesn’t have iconic bands with the exception of USC and Stanford.
It is the kickoff time and ticket prices that’s really about it. Band helps, but it’s supplementary. -
Side note: Cohen actually had all the student athletes gather in Hec-Ed to have the band teach them the fight song and main band tunes. She gets the importance of them, but it’s all $$$

Plus half of the fucking idiots standing the whole game aren’t even watching the game. Their fucking with their phones and chit chatting most of the time. Fuck them.DawgWagonDan said:

The truth is people tailgate way more and longer than they did in the 70s,80s, and 90s. The uw game day is pretty much just like it is at other pac12 stadiums. People like to stay at their tailgate and don’t start making their way to the game until it starts. And they don’t give a fuck about music, the band, lights, tunnel run, etc. -

Maple Valley/South South 16-35 demographic is never coming to Husky Stadium.
They don't identify with anything Washington, neither they nor their family members went to the school, and Seattle won a super bowl recently.
It's a waste of time trying to market to them.
The Alumni and educated people living in the area that are transplants or went to a non-rival school will pay for 5-6 tickets plus concession and some merch to take their families to a family-friendly football experience. And that's really who the AD is trying to get anyways. There's a higher ceiling there and it's the image the AD and college wants.
I will say as someone who frequents the Moda Garden for Blazer games, having an in-stadium pub like they do here with Widmer/10 Barrel would bring in the 25-40 crowd even if they wouldn't care about the game itself. -

The evidence is literally the opposite. Teams with more modern uniforms recruit worse. Moreso after controlling for win percentages.TommySQC said:These are all things we gave up to keep pace with college football today.

They need to find a way to get people to leave their tailgates on time. Seems like low hanging fruit and would be a good place to start. Maybe some fireworks or something.

Everyone here arguing that it can't be fixed is a fucking retarded idiot and should light themselves on fire.
Yeah, it's so hard to get people to watch great football. Our AD's marketing department doesn't understand marketing, branding or gameday experiences. You think it's so fucking amazing in SEC country against a BYU level opponent? Guess what? It's not.
You guys are seriously fucking stupid. The #1 hallmark of stupidity is 'it is the way it is and I can't imagine it any other way, so i'm just going to repeat reasons that I think it is the way it is without having any knowledge or proof'.
Fuck off with that shit. If they did this right we would have a 10 year waiting list for tickets.
You guys are fucking defeatist morons. Half the fucking people here don't go to the games.
I'm sorry everyone here is fucking stupid, but it doesn't mean you can't fix Husky football you fucking clowns.
