Someones been watching to many reno-tahoe commercials. They aren't the same place, no matter how much Reno wants you to believe they are.
Reno's outdoor mecca location, crammed up against the Sierras and 30 minutes from Tahoe and Pyramid, is a huge part of its appeal. It takes longer to drive from one end of Seattle to the other. I'm not sure why Reno's location would be dismissed as a selling point. It's THE selling point for young, strong, sexy, adventurous folk like myself.
Seattle outdoor rec shits on Reno outdoor rec. It's actually not really close. Seattle hiking is better, the summer is nicer, and in the winter the skiing is great and only slightly worse than Reno. Crystal and Baker can go toe to toe with anywhere.
This is coming from someone who does everything possible to be doing shit outdoors outside of work
The take is retarded.
Lake Tahoo >> any lake within 6 hours of Seattle.
Skiing/Boardig in the Reno/Tahoo area is better than anything within 3 hours of Seattle.
Rock climbing in the Reno/Tahoo/Trukee/Yosemite area is better than anything within 4 hours of Seattle.
Hiking in the Sierra Nevadas is way cooler than in the Cascades.
People from the Seattle area move to the Tahoo/Reno/Trukee/Yosemite area for the outdoor life there. Not the other way around.
This is horse shit. All of it. Tahoe is cool but there are a million cool lakes in this region. The Cascades are better and have actual fucking volcanoes, lots of them. The North Cascades is where serious outdoorsmen go. The Olympic Mountains and rainforest is unlike any place else on earth. The hunting is better up here. So is the fishing.
Like I said, you might have an argument on winter sports, but Seattle aint far from Whistler.
There is a reason REI, Outdoor Research, Columbia, Arc'Teryx, and Eddie Bauer were founded and are headquartered here.
Reno has...shittier casinos than Vegas?
There are no lakes in the region as cool as Tahoo.
There is no rock climbing (summer sport) like there is in the Reno/Trukee/Tahoo/Yosemite area.
Yeah, Valcanos are cool, and I've climbed all of them -- but it isn't like you get to peer down into a lava pit or anything.
The snow weight is better in the Sierra Nevada mountains for skiing/boarding -- and yes better than Whistler too.
And LOL at including Eddie Baur in a conversation about outdoor gear... I know all I need to know about you now.
No one cares about rock climbing
I know a top notch LB and special teams coach that disagrees.

Mountain climbers do... but it sounds like you don't have the nads.
Enjoy fishing in your Edie Baur gear.
Mountaineering and rock climbing don't always go hand and hand. I see youre getting emotional because you know I'm right. Im sorry your Eddie Bauer wearing scout master did those things to you.
Keep fishing... guys with beer bellies deserve a reason to get outdoors too.... I suppose.
And hiking up Mt Si in your Eddie Bower waffle stompers doesn't make you a mountaineer.

Hey fuckwad, ever been to Lake Chelan, like the northwest end? Makes Tahoe look like Lake Sammamish. Actually, nevermind. Don't go to the NW end of Lake Chelan. Enjoy the crowds and bro-brahs and flat-brims on Tahoe. We'll be enjoying serenity now in the Cascades and Olympics since they're so empty, comparatively.
And any good skier/snowboarder worth their bindings know the Sierra pale in comparison to the PNDubs. From snowfall, to quality of snow, to variety of terrain, to crowds (or lack thereof), the Cascades and Whistler are superior. Enjoy those liftlines at Squaw/Alpine. But I'm sure you're going to claim that you're a Mt. Rose guy or some shit. (I will concede, though, that the Sierra backcountry might have a leg up on the Cascades. So fucking good.)
Also, fuck Reno. Just cause Patagonia's distribution center is located there along with Elon's batteries doesn't make that desert a hospitable place to live.
Oh, and Spokane fucking rules. Well, maybe it doesn't "rule" but it's much better than fucking Reno. Enjoy that proximity to Burning Man, I guess.

Bull fucking shit.
It's called cascade concrete for a reason.
I've skied it, snowboarded it, and telemarked it in the backcountry.
The only peopl that like cascade concrete better than the powder in the Siera Nevada's are people that are too poor to fly to the Siera Nevadas.
