Man arrested after stealing Seattle police patrol car
Seattle police arrested a 36-year-old man Saturday after he allegedly jumped into a running patrol car and drove it several blocks before surrendering.
Officers were investigating a disturbance at Third Avenue and Pike Street just after noon when the man suddenly got into the patrol car and drove it south, according to Seattle Police Det. Mark Jamieson.
The man was pursued by officers in a separate patrol car to Third Avenue and Marion Street, where he stopped and gave up the car, Jamieson said. He was arrested without incident. There were no injuries and neither the car nor other property was damaged.
It’s not unusual for officers to leave patrol cars running while they investigate an incident, Jamieson said.
The man appeared to be intoxicated, police said. He is expected to be booked into King County Jail.
