The irony in the paragraph made me LOL and ROTFLMAO!!
"And your suggestion that soccer is for people that like "orange slices and juice boxes" is yet another example of ignorance. Basically you're saying that soccer is not a competitive sport. Frankly, I don't really like watching soccer (except for the World Cup), nor do I like it when players pretend to be hurt by falling on the ground and writhing in pain."
"Your posts just get more and more ignorant. I don't know what part of northern idaho you call home, but if you're going to say things like "soccer is for euro wannabe hipster douchebags," then you should expect a response that points out that it is fast becoming a mainstream sport in the United States.

But that is different than saying it's not competitive, or physically demanding.

The Seahawks will get attention if they are winning.
The Huskies will get attention if they are winning.
The Sounders will get attention if they are winning.
Shit, I'm sure even the Mariners could pull 30K to their games if they were winning.
People like winners. They want to pay to see winners play. It's a simple formula.
And yes, some people like to watch more than one sport. I loved watching my Blackhawks take Lord Stanley's Cup this year.
Of course. If any of our sports teams wins, attendance won't be a problem.
I was arguing with the assertion by man boobs that soccer and football draw a completely different group of people, and that soccer is limited to some fringe segment of society.
However, if UW football remains mired in mediocrity, people will consider other options for their entertainment dollars.
And I'd like to see figures for Damone's assertion that Portland has a "larger per capita soccer loving population than Seattle." Besides, per capita doesn't matter. It's sheer numbers that matter.
Your stupid ass took my generalization way too seriously. Of course there is some crossover...just look at pussies like The Glove, millcreekcoug, and MelloDawg for details.
Sadly, soccer is no longer a fringe sport because more and more of our society loves orange slices and juice boxes.

Newsflash: As long as soccer players act like little bitches, it's not a REAL sport. It may as well be figure skating on grass because choreography matters as much as actual athletic skill does.
Bonus newsflash: Soccer is gaining in popularity in the US because of demographic changes and because of the continuing pussification of this country, not because it's actually a great sport.
Some people have a hard time explaining soccer. I don't think anyone can really explain soccer. Maybe Pele, but that's okay. Soccer is a lifestyle and a way of thinking... and it's not about money and popularity. Although, some money would be nice. But it's a voice that says, "Here I am... and fuck you if you can't understand me." And one of these people is gonna save the world. And that means that soccer can save the world... all of us together. And the chicks are great. But what it all comes down to is that thing. The indefinable thing when people catch something in your ability to kick the ball.
The night of the Boise game will generate such fresh excitement and nostalgia that the Huskies will enjoy a huge home field advantage. I feel confident the Dawgs will prevail by 10-14 points.
Derek, enjoyed your article but I'm not as confident as you are.
Look at Sark's track record, when has he ever defeated a decent opponent by more than two scores? I can only think of one time which was the Holiday Bowl against a team who obviously didn't want to be there.

Yeah, but we are rather easily a Top 15 team at home and I can think of at least 5 reasons why that is so.
Soccer will never take off in the US because the best athletes will never play soccer. The best athletes typically are inner city kids, and those kids play basketball and football. That will NEVER change.
A lot is made of the new phenomenon of parents not allowing their kid to play football, but it really isn't anything new. It is getting more press now, but football has always been seen as a dangerous game. There were plenty of kids I knew growing up who weren't allowed to play football because their mom was scared of them getting injured.
Soccer is for pussies, and is the second gayest sport after wrestling. Yes, I undertand that wrestling is a hard sport, and a lot of those guys are tough, but any sport where you wear those fruity uniforms and roll around on a mat with another dude needs to be called out for what it is.

You said European Soccer, which would include the clubs, leagues and governing bodies. Next time if you mean fans, type fans.

Nevermind. Rhetorical question.
