The 2000 Rose Bowl team beat a 3-8 Colorado team 17-14. But we should probably all shit our pants and give up.
They beat Colorado the week after they took out #4 Miami. And had already inserted a plunger into Idaho. We knew the team was good and a letdown road game against a quality program wasn't much of a surprise.
This year we have no other evidence of competency to just brush off looking like ass on Saturday. Still LIFPO, still let the team/coaches adjust to being new to each other, still expect better with a real QB, but it is worrisome we couldn't line up and run it down their throats. And that Hawaii was running it down our throats.
Using Colorado in 2000 and the '90 season is cherry picking. Colorado in 2000 was a team with talent in a hostile environment. They played in the Fiesta Bowl the next season. I don't see Hawaii doing that and they will be lucky to be .500 in the MWC. It's a good example to keep things in perspective that the season isn't over, but there are plenty of other examples where a shitty opener was a sign of things to come. The 2011 win over Eastern is a prime example.
The season isn't over and we will certainly play better this season. That opener was shit though and wasn't good. Blaming Sark for what he left also bothers me. The OL and front 7 are all returning starters (besides Coleman Shelton at RT) and they got outplayed for most of the game against a bad MWC team that didn't win a conference game last year. If Lindquist was the only thing holding us back I would feel much better. I guess we are called doogs for caring about the scrimmage. Personally, I think excusing that kind of performance by saying it was only a scrimmage is much worse than over analyzing a non conference game.
I've been very vocal about supporting Petersen before he was even hired. That was shit though and not having your team ready to play is somewhat concerning. It was the fucking opener. if anything, the players should be too amped up. The old saying goes, "I'd rather have to tell a guy to calm down than to get him fired up." I am curious to how the team comes out next week. I think it will be a tough week of practice and we see a different team next week.
TL, DR version: TSINO, but that was a fucking horrible performance that shouldn't be ignored.
Yeah I don't think you even know what cherry picking is. That would actually explain a lot.
Using select examples to boost your argument. You did it by using Colorado in 2000. I could wikipedia it or get the Webster's definition if you would like.
No. That's called "using an example". Please go to Wikipedia immediately. You need to learn the difference.
I fell for the hype with the rest of you, when common sense should have dictated that you can't turn an ocean liner around in a bathtub. Or do so with a rookie captain at the helm.
I recall Don James first years or so, he was slow out of the starting gate. Anyway, I doubt we see a piss poor performance like Saturday anytime soon.
Didn't listen to the KOMO broadcast. But did I hear Bill Schwartz is back? Also Gaard Swanson during the pre-game?
Chuck needs to come back, although I'm sure he's busy @ the WAC
I woke up fully clothed next to a half eaten Kalua pig/pork sandwich. Laptop on my chest, logged into Husky Hardcore. Totally out of touch with local media
Weird, I woke up half naked with Poi smeared all over my face and size 26 sticky panties on my pillow.
I realize Miles was not starting but from hearing the score I just have to feel ASU will have a chance in Seattle if the defense does not play better, but both teams will be better by the time they meet. Graham had to clean house in just the way Petersen is doing now with the attutude of players that are not "All In" , which was the motto of Graham's first year in Tempe. That takes some time and our players feel after three years finially the selfish attitude is totally gone. I really adimire your coach for doing the same. Funny thing is at USC they think it is OK Sark is a "players" coach which to Devil fans means the inmates like Burfict ran the prison. I was hoping Anu Solomon would be bad in his first game starting as a redshirt freshman but he is the real deal it appears Dawg fans. Tucson will be a hard place for ASU and Washington to get a win on the road this year.

Now more than ever I feel that ASU is a sleeping giant.

Can't make too big a deal out of one week. No team will go better than 7-2 in conference. There will be some growing pains during this early period for UW but fortunately our schedule is a joke. I think our defense will be quite good and allow us to be very competitive but ASU is one of a few offenses that scares me. That guy Norvell is a top notch coordinator and I wonder how long he'll remain there, given his rapid rise. Most of us here had Arizona penciled in as a tough game. I think the Arizona schools are rising and the south will be very strong in a few years. Sark is a fuckwad and the longer he's at USC the better it is for ASU and UW.
On your podcast it was stated Washinton HS kids stay home but not the ones in Phoenix, very true until recently. This is the first time since maybe Bruce Snyder local HS recruiting is looking up for the program, which has a decent shot at kids like Christian Kirk. Frankly, why should a piss ant place like Eugene be good even with Nike money? A number of their stars have been from urban areas like Phoenix.Teams like ASU and Washington should be more dominate, high school football here is way better than the talent even 20 years ago. Graham already has some decent local kids committed this cycler and you have a coach that will get big names, but can win with two and three stars. Coaching is better across the boards and its time the media pay more attention to other big cities outside of LA. Neither school has joke for a coach and the sleeping gaint is getting up.
They said on the replay of the ASU game (I forgot who they were playing - Chris Weber State or something) that 66 players were true freshmen, RS freshmen, or sophomores, so Chest just might be right about this being a down year? Graham seems like he could still win 8 games though.
ASU had a good recruiting class last year in the 20's and a lot of those kids are starting on the defensive side like Smallwood and Calhoun or in the rotation. I think Graham and Petersen are much better at player development and definately having a game plan and calling plays than Seven by a mile. Both are being tested this year and don't think Pete will do a Utah face plant, but wins need to be tempered with program building and putting in a system. 8 or 9 wins regular season would be good for both programs. Coaching does matter unless you are USC, but there it is a national championship or the door.

Wow, a Devool. You don't see those this far north very often!

You should stick to former player interviews.
