Nothing changed with me.
I’ll sum up my thoughts about the CFP with a gif:
never was and never will be a perfect playoff or championship format for college football. 12 should shut up anyone complaining about not getting in though at least. No need to go any bigger.
I think keeping a bye format is a good idea as I could see teams really boringly managing the regular season as long as they can get into the field knowing they’re just gonna have to beat teams in the playoff either way.
It should be 8 teams, max. Conference champs should not guarantee a top-4 seed
As tim marches on, there will be more parody with NIL and boosters being able to cook. Not good for SEC SEC SEC. We will start seeing more competition in the higher seeded teams. Overall and for the future I like it.
My dream is to host Sark or DeBoer at HS under rain laiden skies. Undertaker.gif
The powers that be will eventually make it into a 32 team playoff. Too many games where the team that's actually the best will either have a fluke slip-up, a stud player gets injured, etc.
Schools aren't giving up the home game revenue to balance out the number of games, either.
Welcome to the 18 game future.
Maybe that's the end game plan all along as the NCAA eventually cases or of the CFP and the schools do away with any actual academis requirements. ESPN turns it into an NFL competitor that they can control since the NFL is eventually going to move its programming to being exclusively available via their own streaming network.
Games that matter in college football should be played in Sep/Oct/Nov, not late December. The pressure we felt last year to win (survive) every game was immense. As a PSU "fan" as well, there was no where near that pressure this year. Knew there were 2 mulligans. Even with close games to USC and Minnesota it was never a "if we don't win we're not going to the playoff" feeling. Heck after USC it was more a "well guess we clinched a playoff berth." This Orange Bowl will be the first game with real pressure (there was some in the first round and quarters but PSU jumped out early so wasn't much).
The fans barely bothered to go to the Fiesta.
At the same time, ratings were up across the board so I might be the grumpy one. I guess creating better TV content in Dec/Jan when the weather sucks in half the country is more lucrative than doing so in October. Fans will keep reducing their attendance but the ratings!!!!one11!!!!

I am proponent of the old system and tie-ins, then a plus one, but that ship sailed.
Smart teams will realize that going 14-0 isn't the goal. Winning the playoffs is. And that's too bad since the pressure to go unbeaten as @whlinder said is what made college football different
When the Pats went 18-0 (1) that was the last time anyone in the NFL tried. Look at the Chefs this year.
Pats lost the Super Bowl to a team that finished the regular season 9-7
The world of 2025 sucks. I want to live in 1991 again, even if that means I can't have e-pals.
Oregon lost in 1 quarter. It worked for me.
They had to evacuate the Rose Bowl
too soon!
Also, I'm worried about @CirrhosisDawg …. literally.
NFL wants the Chiefs to win. That's pretty obvious. Record number of one score game wins in a row, and they're among bottom feeders like the Giants and Cheatriots in that they have the fewest 30 point games or something. Rigged! Take it to the NFL Bored nobody goes to.
The good: more football
The bad: loser talk from loser schools who think they can get in the playoffs with 3+ losses
The first round games are almost always going to blow with this system…fixing the top 4 seeding will probably help some just because it will eventually force some SEC team to have to go play on Boise’s blue turf or something but it’s too many teams.
agree but 2024 was a special bag of weak shit and Oregon still figure out how to fuck it all up.
Needs to start earlier
True top 4 seeds based off ranking get a home playoff game after the 5-12 duke it out.
Then the final four commence into the bowls like the old playoffs.
This puts a premium on top 4, making regular season somewhat important, gives better first round games (removes juggernauts vs sisters of the poor), then you gotta go on the road and take one out to get to the final 4.
