I believe in that for the most part but then a guy like Franklin comes along and can’t beat a good team ever but tries to be a bully when it doesn’t matter
I’m pretty clearly no J Franklin fan but he addressed this in his postgame press conference. Lots of video flying around with it but basically he said the 3s and 4s want to play football when they’re in so they played football. They are also judged on MOV and some tiebreakers are based on that now so it actually matters and if people don’t like that it’s not his problem.
He’s not wrong. Plenty of discourse out there by media which should know better saying ND should leap frog PSU for beating USC by more (I even saw the phrase ND crushed USC). USC had the ball on the ND 20 down 7 with ~5 mins to play. 1 bad play play leads to a pick-6 and then trying to push even more to score leads to another one. That is in no way materially different than an OT win against their intended starting QB for the year but margin of victory changes the narrative.
you want to see whining, go back to 86 or whenever it was that Miami laid the lumber on ND and outgoing Gerry Faust or whomever. Those babies still cry about that. Johnson said literally the same thing only back then Buttburger was an Irish fan and campaigned in the media.
Most all coaches are freaking out at someone (usually refs) in the 4th Q when they're losing the game now. It's those $6-12 million salaries they're defending. It's getting worse every year. Whittingham at Utah spends the entire 4th Q stewing at the refs, with his veins popping out.
Locksley must have watched Godfather 2 last night, I could almost sense the forehead kiss coming, but Franklin moved away a second too early.
Don James was asked on the field after his 28-17 win over Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl why he didn't try to score more late in the game to impress voters. He said, "We're delighted with the win. I don't get excited about a bunch of extra points." And I agree with that.
ATBS, if you literally have third-stringers in the game getting a chance, they should run much of the same playbook. One thing I didn't like that Don James did was he'd get his backups in the game and then run off-tackles over and over.
Guy was about as old school, Massillon, OH as they came. From another era. I agree with you and Franklin and Jimmy. If you're down on the depth chart, they get to play. Sometimes, your 2nds and 3rds are better than the other guy's firsts. At that point, an ass kicking is what it is.

Hate whining about "running up the score", at least in a game between peers.
Play defense. It solves every conceivable problem known to man.
Thanks Taft!

Also Maryland still had their 1’s in and we’re blitzing.
If you want the other team to quit playing you need to quit playing too.
also, he’s 100% correct.

It's not my job to stop my offense. It's your job to stop my offense.
Way too much whining this past weekend
Let's clean it up out there
Franklin and Locksley were coaches together at Maryland from 2000 to 2002. People forget that.

Jon Donovan was also on that staff under Ralph Friedgen.
Of the Sherwood Forest Locksleys?
Did the Terps average 1.6 YPG too?
lol because of 44-7
sportsmanship is putting in second stringers
not calling go routes
not going for it on 4th down
kneeling during the last couple plays
don't like it, coach better
