The Program & Fanbase Needs to Take a Long Walk for Perspective

Back to the Sark era, we’re perpetually a young team again…

There's 100 instances of a Wayne Tinkle or Lorenzo Romar Contract where a 2 week or two year pop gets a massive deal in terms or years and money that most programs but only ones with the white whale boosters can get out which means your stuck with them, for every one Dabo Sweeney signing where it works out.

And for those (including our head coach) who thinks the 22 million dollar salary cap solves NIL it does not it any way shape of form.
NIL will still be part of the game outside the cap.

What exactly were the problems that I was warning about last year?
DL not having depth and being at risk to getting run over by a blue blood? We had a really good chance of losing to Texas last year if Sark didn't Sark and I don't think I need to remind what Michigan did to the defense.
I noted that the recruiting by DeBoer was lacking and not necessarily capitalizing on what he had done here to date … looks like that one was pretty much spot on
I noted that we were at risk of special teams flipping a game against us and notably in the punting game … we got away with it last year and it's cost us significantly this year
As for Indiana, that's what happens when you hire a coach early in the process, he's able to bring a bunch of his players from a very successful James Madison program, and reports are that Indiana has spent over $13M in NIL. To the extent that UW is able to spend $13M in NIL then sure that's a reasonable expectation to be a Top 10-15 team.

Don't underestimate the difference of having a QB like Rogers who has a decent but definitely not an above average arm in terms of arm strength … his best asset is his accuracy
He lacks the mobility to cover for the OL issues and the arm strength to fit balls into tight windows that are paramount in the red zone

The only thing missing from all this is the circa 2003 / 2004 chestnut
"Coach X did not throw one block on the line yesterday" where X is Gilby or Fish
-
Fish will get another year, but that's all of this continues… no DJ comparisons forthcoming

Alabama has the #1 recruiting class

Finally actually reading Teq's OP, my comments:
I DISAGREE that DeBoer was not staying here long-term when he was hired. I do think he intended to. His wife and daughter didn't want to move anymore and he was getting a big time job after a career of moving around once he got to D-1. The daughter was a serious softball prospect and being able to go to UW appealed to her.
Once he blew past expectations, experienced our athletic department AND had the opportunity to move up to the very top of jobs available he went and took it.
AGREE that this year was going to be rough due to the timing of the coaching changes and the schedule. We're comparing how quick a rebuild can happen at a program to Indiana because we just lost to them, but they had the ability for their staff to work the December portal, which Fisch did not.
Fisch's gameday coaching has me ticked off and I expect him to show some shit there in a hurry, along with showing in season improvement. On this one:
The reality is that what happens with the end of the recruiting season and what we do in the transfer portal is more important than anything that happens over the next 4 games.
If we end up 4-8, which I think is more likely than 6-6 at this point, he is going to have a hell of a time getting the portal guys and regular recruits we need to get back to where we expect to be in 2025.

Also, take the gloves off was originally written when, 2008? 2009? It needs an anniversary celebration.
