A group of Satanists are using the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision to promote their own political initiatives -- which are the polar opposite of the Christian craft store giant.

The Supreme Court ruling allows Hobby Lobby to opt out of providing contraceptives to their employees on the basis of their religious beliefs. Now, The Satanic Temple plans to cite the verdict as justification for the protection of their own beliefs.

"We should only have to review medical or scientific information based solely on fact and not politicized," said Jex Blackmore, the head of the Detroit chapter of The Satanic Temple. "Some of that state-drafted information is medical in nature [but] it's just that it's written in a very biased format."

The group announced the initiative last week and have provided a form letter intended to enable women to opt-out of receiving the pamphlets distributed under the informed consent laws. They contend that the informed consent pamphlets run counter to their religious beliefs. Women are able to print off the opt-out form, fill it out and hand it to their doctor. If the doctor still gives them the state-mandated forms in spite of the letter, The Satanic Temple says it will file a lawsuit on their behalf.

Troof, but the Satanic Temple is really more a collection of secular humanists than Satan-worshippers. I think they use the "Satanic" title to piss people off.
    Do you worship Satan?

It is the position of The Satanic Temple that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. The Satanist should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse.

Point of clarification. The satanist beliefs are not the polar opposite of the hobby lobby people. Simple fact. Atheism would be the opposite. Satanism and Christianity are the same deal. By definition, satanist believe in Christianity.

I don't exactly agree with that.

The opposite, in a broad sense, would be claiming that there are no gods. And while someone making that claim would be an atheist, that is not a requirement for being an atheist. Most atheists do not make that claim.

Strong, or positive, atheism is what's used to identify those that hold that stance. You could be a complete dick and say that has the word atheism in it so it's opposite. But the majority of atheists do no have that view. Identifying all of atheism as the opposite would be incorrect.

Are we sure that Satan is in favor of abortion? I'd like to see a link

There's no logical reason why he would be. He needs all the minions he can get.

P.S. That is some dark shit, dude. The fact that some posters are rallying around you is even more disturbing. You have me contemplating if I even want to poast here anymore.

Maybe Jesus and the Satan are more alike than we think.

For starters, they're both imaginary characters. And that's just for starters!

Jesus was real. I'm not so sure about the immaculate conception and miracles. Also, a creepy priest used to give me stale bread & claim it was his body. Weird shit.

That's a pretty definitive statement for a historical figure with exactly zero contemporary evidence to show that they actually existed.

Yeah, I know, one million percent of historians agree that he did exist. But that's not true. There isn't consensus on Jesus. Except among Christian Historians. And they have a small conflict of interest.

I think the case is pretty weak. But it's for each person to decide on their own. There is definitely not enough to be definitive about it though.

I like to use historical text that has been tampered with to prove my argument. I like to do that.

All religions press a nerve. The same way people that think vaccines cause autism do. The same way climate change deniers do.

People openly and willingly dismissing critical thinking, to the detriment of society, so they can believe whatever they feel like is the single biggest problem in the world.

That's why it presses a nerve.
