Faint hearted losers giving up after 8 games
Fans, not players
USC now three plays away from a Top Five ranking
Halliday throws for a bunch of yards
IT'S BEEN 8 GAMES NOT TWELVE YEARS
SOME OF YOU NEED TO LEARN THE DIFFERENCE
Actually it has been 14 years since the last championship but only eight games for new coach Chris Petersen. He isn't getting fired and he is going to do it his way so you might as well grow the fuck up and learn the difference between real life and the internet. I hate my readers and I'm going to punish you with serious writing and no humor until you stop pissing me off. So fuck off and listen.
Don James took over in 1975, 14 years after the last Rose Bowl win and 11 years after the last conference title. Husky Stadium was half empty and fans were not thrilled that James took away the aerial circus that Jim Owens had installed under Sonny Sixkiller and Chris Rowland and rode to entertaining losses and mediocre records. James insisted on doing it his way and ran an I formation option with Warren Moon, who despite revisionist history to the contrary, was not the Hall of Famer we know now.
Defense, special teams, and an offense designed not to lose the game was boring and not that much more successful than Owens. But the trained eye could see a toughness and yes, process, developing that would lead to long term success, not short term sizzle. James was 11-11 his first two years and 12-14 into his third year before his system took off and Washington became the most successful program on the west coast. And we did in fact want him fired many times. I get it.
But James wasn't Owens, and Petersen isn't Gilby-Ty-Sark. He's Chris Petersen and he is being paid a boat load of money and he will do it his way. And we will want him fired numerous times until his program takes hold. Or it won't and he will be fired. Either way it isn't that interesting right now, it is painful to watch.
But as John Timu was running back the pick 6 to tie a game Washington had no business being in you could catch a glimmer of the process at work. Feel free to keep bitching, I know I will, but stop calling everyone a doog when they want to do something other than bitch like a little bitch. Far as I can tell, the doogs are at doogman pining for the sizzle of Sark and high scoring losses.
Real men don't cry like little girls when the going gets tough. And this will be tough. Because it is the only way to get back to tough football that is built to last. I don't know how long it will take but we all know that a great coach has it done by year three. Which is year 17. Fuck. And if Petersen fails we might as well accept being Minnesota.
So there's that.
UTAH REMINDS US WHY WE ARE LUCKY TO NOT HAVE SARK
It was a critical 4th and two late in the game and a first down would seal the win for USC and give them control of the rugged PAC 12 South. Buck Allen is the best back in the league, enough said on that. But handing the ball to Allen would not highlight the offensive brilliance of the best play caller in America. No sir, handing the ball to a wide out who would step out of bounds before the first down marker is just the kind of innovative offense that Sark fans in Seattle miss so much.
It was as stupid as pitching the ball on the goal line after running it down Arizona State's throat. Husky fans are rightly outraged at that from Petersen. Let's face it, we need more coaches who are as smart as we are.
Anyway Utah took the ball down the field against the rugged Wilcox defense and grasped victory from the jaws of defeat dropping USC to the same 5-3 record as Washington with far better talent and a good quarterback.
So there's that.
PAC 12 POWER RANKINGS
There are many power rankings but we need one more. Mine.
1. WSU - to be the best you have to beat the best and the Cuogs beat Utah
2. Utah - the best. Swept Los Angeles and now face ASU, Oregon, Stanford, and Arizona. We find out who they are the next month
3. Arizona - won at Eugene and Pullman. Enough said on that
4. Arizona State - has the inside track and easiest schedule left
5. Oregon - PUMP MY GAS DUCK!!!! Inferior academics lower their rank.
6. UCLA - squandered talent, uneven coaching, and wet water.
7. USC - squandered talent and horrible coaching is no way to go through life son.
8. Stanford - it's sad to see how far they have fallen
9. Washington - rinse lather repeat
10. Oregon State - Reilly does more with less but after all this time shouldn't he have more?
11. Cal - played Oregon tougher than we did. So there's that.
12. Colorado - looking at Washington as a winnable game because it is
NATIONAL PLAY OFF SEEDS WHERE ACTUAL FOOTBALL IS PLAYED
3. MISSISSIPPI STATE
I hope you hated the issue as much as I hate writing this drivel year after year. Fuck off.
