You need to beat the Red Sox when you only give up 2 runs to them, especially when your pitcher who is struggling the most does it. That was a BAD loss because it could have easily been a win.

Seager and Zunino are both completely guessing up at the plate. Zunino has always done that but was starting to have better at bats last year but has regressed back to his old self. Seager just sucks right now.

    Yep that's a bad loss.

Paxton gets rocked for 6 runs and the team still comes back and pulls it out. Bigtime dubya.

Only a half game out of the wildcard

10 days later and this post has aged quite well
Iron clad law. The Mariners will hang for about another 2-3 weeks then they will hit a one month slump. They will fall to about 10-12 games out of the wild card. They will then get hot for a month and get within 2 games, and then will falter down the stretch and finish about 4-5 games out. And after the final game of the season, the Mariner fans will give a standing ovation for a good job, good effort.

Sweep the Angels and split with the Red Sox and Houston still gains two games. Ending the playoff drought by losing the wild card game is going to be special.

I'm also a big sabermetrics guy. Yes, the M's are playing over their heads. They are well constructed to win close games at an above average pace though (not the current pace obviously), and that run differential includes 44 AB's given to Ichiro which thankfully will not be hurting the team going forward.

All that is to say the M's are better than their run differential. Though not as good as the Astros. But weird shit happens in baseball.

They are good enough to make the playoffs, the central is dogshit.

They're going to make the playoffs and then lose at the Yankees or Red Sox in the wild card play in game.
