Don Pellum's thoughts on his hiring:
"I don't think I got hired because I'm an Oregon guy and for the love. I know Coach Helfrich sees the right characteristics and the right integrity and the right discipline and the right things in me to make this decision. If not, this decision wouldn't have happened. This is not some 'gimme gift' thing. This is, 'you can do it.'"

Helfrich apparently didn't think it was worth his time or effort to consider all of his options even though he's at the helm of one of the country's elite programs. I'm sure he hired him because he knew that Pellum is "a tough, tough dude."
